I think its a good move by freddie. Understanding that his underweight, undersized fighter is fighting a welterweight close enough to the limit... Freddie understands that his fighter is giving up size and power, so he's banking on speed and movement and combinations to pick apart Cotto.
Unfortunately a shot to the cups, not a floyd forearm or or a hatton clinch or a ruiz jab n' grab... or even a non cutting headbutt. Its not something that can be reaffirmed to the ref after the round is over. Roach knows Cottos M.O. and he knows that if Cotto goes to the cup on his fighter, his whole game plan goes out the window.
A shot to the cup especially by a physically bigger power puncher will freeze his fighter and expose him to heavy shots when he cant protect himself. Even low blows that are not on the cup take away his fighters legs and mobility and leave pacquaio a sitting duck for cottos body attack. Its a classic tactic used by big punchers and knuckle draggers with heavy feet, that couldnt deal with movement. Take away the guys legs and hes forced to stand and trade with you where you have the advantage. He wont get an immediate suspension, but hes going for the strictest penalty hope to make everyone aware. The ref will know when and where to look for it and Cottos more likely to keep his punches high. Its a bit of genius against someone who relies on the body attack as much as Cotto because even legal punches that are close to the border can get Cotto a warning and take away his primary weapon.
They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.

No way will they fight in MSG, for the same reason Pac & Hatton didn't fight in Wembley. The money the casinos put up is just too valuable. That's why the big fights will continue to be there. The MGM Grand could give away all the tickets as comps & probably still make a tidy profit from what people spend in the casinos & shops throughout the day.
Anyway, according to this whoever wins it appears Arum simply doesn't want to do the deal with Mayweather. In fact, he doesn't even want to bother trying to negotiate.
Pacquiao-Mayweather Unlikely For 2010, Says Arum - Boxing News
Because Mayweather will be difficult to negotiate with his trash talks.
They want Mayweather but Mayweather seems to be avoiding Pac. Before Mayweather fought MArquez, team Pacquaio including Arum was asking Mayweather to wait for just one day so Mayweather vs Pac could happen. MAyweather instead declared his fight vs Marquez on the same day Pac vs Hatton was weighed in for their fight (hope my memory does not fail me on this).
This is the reason why Arum is doubting Pac vs Mayweather would happen.
In case Pac demolishes Cotto impressively, Mayweather won't be fighting Pac for sure.... and we know why...![]()

He didn't avoid Pac, he took a fight with Marquez first. Do you think all the negotiations that went into the JMM fight all happened on that one day?
Arum doubts it because he wants PBF to earn as little as possible. He also wants to protect his investments. The fact he's talking about putting Pac in with JMM, who PBF just decisively beat, says it all about who is ducking who (no not Pac, Arum). The fact you'd try to defend a piece of shiit promoter like Arum, just because you can't bare anything that doesn't cover Manny in complete, undying adulation is pathetic.
