I seriously doubt the fight is gonna happen.
But why do I get the feeling if it was Mosley fighting him they'd say Mosley is giving a young gun a shot and should be credited for his willingness to fight anyone in a high risk low reward fight. if it was Berto they'd give him credit as well. But if its Mayweather "he should fight a top welterweight"![]()
Im willing to bet if that article had Mosleys name in it, no one would complain they would attribute it to his willingness to fight anyone and give him credit for giving the kid a chance.
That said, no way Mayweather fights him at this point.
That's cuz Mosley really has nothing left to prove. He's always actively search for the big fights. I don't agree with all the criticism Mayweather gets, but there is no doubt Mosley has faced the tougher opposition through out his career. And not by a little. His resume of fighters faced destroys Mayweather's
Whats your rundown of everyone that Mosley's faced? Here's the people I can think of from the top of my head that are great opposition. De La Hoya, Forrest(lost twice), Wright(lost twice), Vargas, Cotto(lost) and Margarito. In your opinion should we give all that credit to a resume if you faced them and lost or is it just the matter of fighting them that they should get all that credit for? Of those 6 top guys Mosley has fought he lost to three of them. that makes him 3-3.
If i ran down Mayweathers list, he beat G. Hernandez(we can rank him at about Vargas level if you like) Carlos Hernandez, Diego Corrales, Castillo, Judah and Baldomir are getting a mention because you cannot blame them for their standings in the division at the time Floyd fought them, De La Hoya, Hatton and Marquez. Floyd has beaten them all and still has time. Considering his next 2 opponents are likely to be Pacquiao and Mosley. Mayweather within his next 2 or 3 fights would have a resume that beats Shane's especially if Floyd wins all those fights. Agree or disagree?
I agree with some of that to a point, but you left Jesus Chavez off Floyd's list & John John Molina, Phillip Holiday & Jesse James Leija off Shane's. I'd say right now Shane has the slight edge in terms of quality of opposition, but obviously success rate plays into that for a lot of people. If Floyd fought Pac/Cotto & won, I'd say his was marginally better. If he then beat the winner of Shane/Berto, it would be quite a bit better.
Hmm well I'd think if we put John John Molina, Phillip Holiday and Jesse James Leija on Shanes that we can put Gatti's name on Floyds along with Jesus Chavez whom you mentioned as well. Don't know if we'd put Corley on Floyds list, he was a champ but I don't know if we can really consider him that top.
Corley was nowhere near the level of Leija, Holiday & Molina, who were all extremely accomplished fighters with Hall of Famers on some of their resumes. I guess Gatti & Chavez can go on there, but the Gatti that Floyd fought was not on the same level as Holiday or Leija that Shane fought IMO.

Success rate is a huge factor on strength of resume. Yes Mosley has fought the better fighters overall so far, but he has lost to half of them. As i said in another thread if its purely done on who you have fought and not on success then it would probably be some journeyman that has the best resume in boxing.

It doesn't matter if he won or lost. It's the fact that Mosley was willing to fight anybody. No matter what. Mosley took fights with Forrest and Wright when he didn't have too. He didn't have to fight Collazo when he did. And to this day he still chases the big fights. So it's hard to knock Mosley if it was he who was taking the Alvarez fight. Cuz his career opponents says it all
