Hope this works:
Cost: $639
I upgraded the wireless card (I assume that makes the internet connection faster), and the battery. Would it be worth it to upgrade the processor or the LCD screen?

Normally, it takes a few seconds to connect to the network, the better your card is, the stronger it is to capt signals.
As for the processor: for your needs, definitely not... at some point, you will pay a good share more for a small difference.
Battery:Can you upgrade your battery? Perhaps that could be good for you if you do so, not absolutely necessary but as you stated, if for you battery life is a must, then it can be interesting.
Ram: 3 gig is enough for what you do but if you can upgrade it to 4 with the model you've chosen, I would do so.
Screen: LED screen are definitely excellent, I wouldn't pay more for the little upgrade it provides, there is a small difference, perhaps, but not sure you can truly see it with the use you're making out of it.

It is a very fair deal if you ask me, you should not disappointed at all by such little monster, even very satisfait I think. 6 cells battery for a 14' screen Is enough though if you can afford 50$ more, if you're a long life battery sucker, that might worth it but already, you have something way above decency for your needs.

Do they still make Toughbooks? If I paid for computer stuff that's what I'd buy. Forget about spec etc., with a laptop it's how well they stand up to getting dropped etc. I go through them at a rate of knots, I broke one jst last week.
My girlfriend spilt a glass of wine into one in Amsterdam last week, although I did almost throw it a few times due to rubbish speeds. Last week was a nightmare internet-wise. I generally manage to drop them. I must have been through 20 in the last few years although I get them from work and just give them to people I know, family etc. I must have bust at least ten though. They really are delicate things, the Toughbook was great but the hard drive went, or something technical.
