Here's a link re the weight classes, no one is arguing really that Pac is WW champion, what the point is, is that he is dictating what weight his opponent comes in at , that's not how it works. The sanctioning bodies recognise the classes and should stop supporting catch weights.
List of boxing weight classes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pac is a WW (147) champion and a Jr. WW (140) champion at the same time. Those were the belts he's currently holding now.
But these belt titles doesn't really matter. It's not the primary reason why Pacquiao vs. Mayweather should be made. The fight is not for who's the best WW or Jr. WW boxer.
This fight is all about the best fighting the best in P4P terms.

If we keep using the P4P argument and not addressing the fact there are weight classes then we'll have a WW or MW challenging David Haye next. If catch weights keep getting made then someone is going to get seriously f***d up due to trying to make a weight they shouldn't be at becasue the opposition demended it and not the governing bodies.
I got a question for you? Who demanded for this fight to be made?
For sure, it's not the governing bodies since it's not like someone is the mandatory challenger of some champion. Hope you have now an idea why weight class and governing bodies plays a little role in this particular rare special match up.
145 lbs. is not a ridiculous weight. It's only 1 lb. from each boxer's last weigh-in weight.

1 lb is nothing if it's cotton. yes, this is for the p4p crown, for all the marbles, mayweather is a full 147lber while pac although competitive at welter is still a smaller guy and imo belongs at 140. i really wouldn't mind a catchweight of 145 with one guy moving up and the other moving down a bit. i just want to see this fight made.
145 is the midpoint weight between Mayweather and Pacquiao, why can't we agree on that? It's the most logical and fair weight for this fight to happen.
The governing bodies tried to squeeze themselves in these super fights to keep their belts in the limelight.
It's not the governing bodies who demanded that Mayweather-Pacquiao should be made. It's us, boxing fans who wanted/demanded for this fight.

In answer to your question , I will state the obvious, the public shows a desire for a fight (the press lead the way)
The fight is made by the promoters and the fighters camps and the terms are agreed.
Governing bodies DO play a part unless you got a Silver Dollar and a piece of tape to make the "belts' that are avaialble.
The various athletics commissions have to sanction a fight , therefore if something goes wrong soemone should be responsible. But under your thinking maybe the public who demanded the fight should be held responsible if a fighter is injured or worse trying to make a weigh demded by someone not in charge.

So I read Jaz earlier today. And I've been reading his posts and thinking this guy is not only reasonable, but smart. And even Ouma agreed with him, another one likewise.
But if you look at the physical size advantage between a fight from Mayweahter and Pacquiao it will be a BIG one. And I know that from not looking. Whice I should and would have looked but I didn't..
PBF made JMM looked like a dwarf and styles and fights but I think JMM has more hard power than Pacman. Pac will stun and KD bc his opponents didnt see it coming, but JMM can rattle the brain and really get an opponent in mental places that they cant help.
And PBF made JMM look like a middle weght vs. lightweight or junior ww at best.
Im not a nuthugger of either, but obviously PBF is a bitch and Pac isn't, so even though i dont think im biased, i probably am.
But I love the 145 idea. And fine PBF 1 million per pound I say. Floy isn't that too far gone from the weight.
And the Pac steroids things...if you ask me if Pac is getting questioned than looked at floyd.
It's the public (or fans) who demanded for this fight. Of course it will be govern by some ABC org but this org is actually being there for legalities. They have little say about this fight aside from the standard boxing rules that will be applied.
A fight at an agreed weight of 145 lbs. is not impossible, in fact Pacquiao fought his last fight at agreed weight of 145 lbs. Mayweather fought his at agreed weight of 144 lbs.

Most people seem to have missed my main problem. It is not the wanting to bring Mayweather down to 145, although that pisses me off as it did with the Cotto fight, it is saying Marquez has to come up to 145. What so Pacquiao can't make 140, but he's too small for 147?
If he's too small, then fight Marquez at 140. If he can't make that fight Mayweather at 147.
Someone mentioned the fight-night weigh-ins for Mayweather-Marquez, apparently Ring Magazine were allowed to weigh both & gave the weights in their latest issue, Marquez was 147 & Mayweather was 152. You can check that in their latest issue.
Btw, I should say welcome back XaduBoxer, where did you come up with the name fanjohn?

Roach wants Pac to fight small fighters at a higher weights and big fighters at lower weights its all BS.
