    Default Vazquez vs Sonsona

Historically there had been great championship fights between Puertorrican and Mexican fighters, which created high expectations. However, recently this has been changing replacing Mexico by Philipines. Tomorrow (Feb 27) we will have another chapter protagonized by two (2) young prospects; Wilfredo Vazquez Jr (son of former 3 times World Champ, Wilfredo Vazquez) from Puerto Rico and Marvin Sonsona from Philipines (became WC beating Carita Lopez from Puerto Rico).

What I have to say about this fight is that it has great opportunities from being terminated by TKO since both young fighters are showing great hunger for winning, and both have good power punch. This definitely adds possibilities of seeing a very entertaining fight.

No doubt to say that I am with Vazquez, specially after the little trash talking from Sonsona about past Puertorrocan Champs. The comment I have for Sonsona is that not all fighters from Philipines are named Paquiao.

Vazquez Jr. KOs Sonsona | Boxing News

In a clash for the vacant WBO junior featherweight championship, Wilfredo Vazquez, Jr. (18-0-1, 15 KOs) scored an impressive fourth round KO over previously unbeaten former WBO super flyweight champion Marvin Sonsona (14-1-1, 12 KOs) on Saturday night at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Vazquez Jr., son of Puerto Rican ring great Wilfredo Vazquez, took over the fight in round two and battered the 19-year-old former 115lb champion who had moved up two divisions to the deck in the fourth. A Vazquez left hook to the body ended it for Sonsona at the 2:01 mark. He did not beat the count of referee Luis Pabon.

Vazquez looked great, he really destroyed Sonsona's will.

IMO one of the best body shots in the last few years, completely demolished Sonsona

Man, I had read and heard the comments. Unfortunately I could not watch the fight since I was traveling. This is another chapter in PR WC history, and we continue counting... Vazquez never fought as an amateur, but have a great coach in his corner, his own father...

It was one of those fights where the faster guy didn't win. Was it me (totally possible) or did Vasquez's style look a little Cottoesque?

he seemed a bit like a mix between Trinidad and Cotto to me lol his stance looked pretty identical to Tito with the high guard

The announcing was horrible, the coverage was just as bad as they lagged with the replay and never showed complete best of round highlights.

It was an easy win for Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. It took him one round to figure out his opponent and then it was all Wilfredo. We had a lot of boxing last night.

The first few fights from Bayamon were nothing more than a circus side show.

Only comment I have is that in the "circus" the twin brothers McWilliams and McJoe Arroyo made their pro debut, and I can tell there will be a lot to hear from them. So start watching their fights. They have great technique and very good power. I believe this is WC material for future, remeber these names.

Finally I could see not the entire fight, but rounds 1 and 2, and the KO in Youtube. I think Vazquez has Tito's killer instinct, and somehow he is similar to his dad, his trainer. I don't feel this was the natural Cotto's style. I think Cotto forced this style trying to impress the TV, being more aggressive than his natural counter punching body KO's. And, this was what made him look so bad against Pacman.
