Let's hope so. Come on Clottey!

Hopefully this is stage one in the dismantling of the divas. I've been watching more Clottey interviews this morning and I like the guy, it will be good to see him pull out the win.

Everyone is predicting a Manny win and the arguments are persuasive, but anything can happen in boxing. I want an upset!

I would love to see it happen as well, but Clottey was a very carefully selected opponent. The matchmaking is top notch in order to preserve the Mayweather fight down the line while giving Pacquiao a good win on paper in the meantime.
I really don't see why on earth Clottey would be any more fired up for this fight than he was against Cotto? Surely he had to know that fight was the biggest of his career, and possibly his last marquee oppourtunity... And he completely gave the fight away. He let Cotto take the last 2 rounds from him when he was MUCH worse for wear, why? He just doesn't have that higher gear it takes to beat top guys, it would have been lunacy for him to really imagine he had the fight won by the judges..
Pacquiao is way to fast for him, Clottey has no equalizer whatsoever, and he can't begin to match the pace Manny is going to set. I actually expect this to be completely lopsided the more I think about it, Clottey might win a round or two of the first five, then he will just continue to cover up falling further and further behind taking punishment. Maybe Manny stops him maybe not, but he's going to completely run away with it after the mid rounds. It's really dead easy to see why the fight was made when you contrast styles, Manny will be in and out all day and Clottey is going to look like a putz by the end of the fight.

I don't see a James Buster Douglass upset in the making. If Pacquiao can take Cotto's shots like they were nothing, I really don't see him having a problem taking Clottey's shots.

I am never underestimating Pacquiao ever again and I think that he will a strong UD. Although Clottey will physically be the biggest fighter Manny IMO has faced I dont think that he will be able to hurt Manny and he will not be able to handle all of the punch combinations that Manny will unload. I expect another strong performance from manny, and lets hope to god that he faces the winner of Mayweather-Mosley.

I think Clottey's best bet is to get that head ramming at Manny because we all know he doesn't fight as well when dealing with cuts. In the confusion he should try to fight fire with fire and hope that with the disadvantage he can steal enough rounds before the fight is stopped and it goes to the cards.

What am I doing? I am advocating the exact same strategy Amir Khan used against Barrera!

Personally I dont think its a foregone conclusion. Clottey is strong hard to hit and fairly consistent in what he does. Thats the key in my opinion. I think Clottey has a chance late. Manny is just too fast and Im sure his plan is to try and box circles around Clottey. This fight could very well turn out to be similar to Winky Wright Shane Mosley if Clottey boxes smart.

Clottey needs to pressure forward with a good defense and consistent jab and be very selective with power shots and combinations early. In the second half of the fight Clottey needs to open up more if he can establish himself.

As for Manny P he needs to box in close angles and avoid mixing it up too much and see what happens if he can find the right opening to stop Clottey. Most likely scenario if Clottey doesnt have any success imposing himself is a fairly easy route to a UD for Manny. If Clottey can get his jab going and keep Manny on his backfoot the fight can get very interesting in the second half when Manny's power and speed will be less of a factor. In other words Clottey needs to reduce Manny back into a lightweight and then really take it to him late.

Been telling everyone who will listen this is by no means a done deal. Clottey is a GENUINE authentic welterweight who will be a good stone heavier and few inches taller than pacquiao come the night of the fight.

I expect pac to dazzle early on and clottey may just have to take an 8count within the 1st 3-4rounds. But if he can weather the storm and get to 8,9,10 there will lie his chance to genuinely hurt pacquiao and by 10-12 manny may just be out on his feet!!

Manny will probably win a fairly one-sided UD. I don't see him stopping Clottey though, his D is too good.

We could always count on the ESPN curse. No not Teddy Atlas.

But whichever boxer they show on their opening sequence when the music plays is gonna lose.

So far the victims have been

Roy Jones Jr(before the 2nd Tarver fight)
Oscar De La Hoya(before the Hopkins fight)
    Mike Tyson(before the McBride fight)

And today Manny Pacquiao was on it. So if he loses he'll be the 4th

I'm sure the regulars will trickle in once the fights start.

    What time do they start?

I agree with the commentators in that it is good to see a fight outside of Las Vegas, it would be ood to see more boxing in big venues and at a reasonable cost. Not a bad undercard scheduled for this too.
