But why are people doing them and in the middle of crops? Seems such a silly waste of time and effort, not to mention a waste of good farm land.

I know humans are capable of making the easy ones but some of those look heaps fuckin technical. They look like they would take all fuckin night and how do they do without leaving any trace of track marks?

It's very interesting...
The documentary I watched the other night, they had a mathematician draw up a complex plan, and then they had some expert crop circle makers go out and try to make it..
Their was only about 5 of them, they could ONLY use natural light (moon), they could only do it during night time under the sort of conditions that all these other circles are made i.e. no farmer is allowed to see them...They had to be out of there by sunrise and leave no trace of themselves..
Well first of all I didn't think the design the matmatician gave them was THAT complex, but it involved a lot of different sized circles touching each other, and hence would need very precise measurements otherwise if one ciricle was out, the whole design would screw up..
But they managed to do it pretty well... It didn't look quite as clean as the ones I posted pictures of, but given the time frame they had, it was very very impressive... I would think that the "people"who made the ones I posted may have had more time (these people did it on the shortest night of the year), they probably had a LOT more people, and a lot more time to plan it all out so they all knew their job immediately...
How they kept from leaving traces was they moved along the existing straight lines which you can see it the top pictures. If they had two circles which didn't touch each other, they would step over the crops to leave a gap...
Basically what I took from it is, given enough time, enough planning, and being very careful, humans could make just about any design.... One question has always been, how would they have time to do it in a single night, but given these guys made a pretty decent one in a short night, and had little time to plan, I think it's possible to make just about anything if you are prepared...

This video was one of the main parts of the Doco.... In 1996 a guy walked into a bar in England saying he had footage of small orbs of light forming a crop circle..
The footage is shown in the video... Anyway, years later he came out saying he totally faked the whole thing...
Yet funny enough, the true believers STILL think this video is real.. Even after some confessed to it being a hoax.. They say it's part of the conspiracy and he has been coerced into saying he faked it...
EVEN if it was real and he got this footage out there,,,, why would anyone give a shit about making him say it was a hoax? Even if there WAS a secret part of the government covering something up, this video didn't exactly change the world and make everyone start asking questions and trying to uncover things... Most of the people who believed it was real were nut jobs.. What does a government care about nut jobs..
Anyway, watch for yourself...

No matter how they are created, some of them are absolutely stunning... works of art really.

What bemuses me about the whole supernatural/sci fi pseduo sciences in general is the readiness to interpret certain phenomena as evidence for either aliens or ghosts soley on the basis of a lack of a fully explainable alternative.
I mean just because the exact origin of every crop circle ever made cannot be conclusively traced, so automatically the answer 'aliens' becomes a credible hypothesis for all circles not proven to be man made.
But why? Who decided that a crop circle appearing without a culprit identification = evidence of extra terrestrial life?
I don't see any causal relation between the two.
Why not ghosts for example? Why are crop circles not evidence of medieval nightwraiths, malevolent spirits that dance to the light of the moon in fields where the old lay line energies are still strong?
It just annoys me. They take something for which is there no evidence for its existence (e.g ghosts) and then decide to arbitrarily assign certain phenomena and evidences to it, thus a sudden drop in temperature in a room, or a mist appearing become ghostly evidences.
Again why? Why is that not evidence for aliens?
Why is it assumed that only aliens, if they exist would make crop circles, whilst ghosts, if they exist would make cold spots in rooms or make banging noises in the attic?
The obvious scientific approach is that you cannot assign as a possible cause, something that has no other evidence for even existing.
Police investigating a homicide don't automatically list Koala Bears as suspects in any case where a killer is not yet identified and then use these unsolved cases as the actual evidence for killer Koalas!
It's really so dumb and retarded.
Monsterquest would do it all the time. They would go off looking for some creature for which there was no evidence. Then a rock would get thrown and no human was seen to be throwing it, and so it becomes tantalising evidence for the existence of the creature![]()
I think it's similar to why people do graffiti with the added lure of the fact that you get to see how far you can push people... getting them to create myths and buy into conspiracies etc.
...and who knows what else... does the Tourism industry benefit when it happens? maybe far fetched but that could be a reason? I'm sure if we sat and thought about it we could come up with loads.

I thought it was proven to be done by human hoaxers.

I think most a proved to be human made... I have watched documentaries also where a small team of relatively inexperienced but intelligent guys have gone out just in a night, and recreated some of the complex corp circles and proved that it can be done..... I must say that they didn't do as good of a job as a lot of the circles you see... But experts who have put an incredible amount of planning, could easy produce 99% of the circles you see, in the time that they would have had without being spotted...
But on the other hand, on Louis Theroux in his Alien episode, they showed cows which appeared to have their eyes and anuses almost surgically removed, and actually smelt like disinfectant.. Stuff like that is strange.... I can see the appeal of making a crop circle as a hoax, but killing a cow and surgically removing it's anus it's slightly more mysterious to me..
