I say Shane Mosley is as close to his prime as any 35 year old fighter is ever going to be. And beting him will be a great acomplishment for Cotto.
This is indeed the toughest test in Cotto's career, but it is by no means the first time he will get tested. Cotto has been tested plenty and has passed every time with flying colors. If you take Kostya Tszyu out of Hatton's record than Cotto's look 10 times better IMHO. I know no one is talking about Hatton here I'm just giving an example. Some people here think Cotto is some kind of green up and cummer who just got his hands on a title. Cotto is a young and hungry lion with the goods to give ANYBODY a hell of a fight.
Bob Arum would like you to believe so
Amazed even then Shane was considered old and look at what he has done to Marg.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
He did that 3 years ago against a guy who thought Mosley was so done that he didn't need to train properly. Mosley struggled with Cotto and Pac killed him. Pac blinded Margarito on the night and Margarito is still bloodshot to this day. And yet 3 years on and after a loss and a draw Mosley is to turn back time?
I wish and dream it to be so, but I just don't think so.
This Shane Mosley is the same Mosley that fought Vargas, Mayorga, Floyd and Mora.
He looks a lot better againts Colazo and of course againts tailor made Margarito.

::: IN order :::
1. From January 2009 to April 2010 Mosley was the number ONE Welterweight ( as 90% of the FORUMS proclaimed )
2. Former and to some still p4p King Floyd shuts him down in 12
3. Got a draw againts Mora ( Many thought he won). THe same Mora the beat Forrest that beat Mosley twice. ( Styles, rangy fighters )
4. Now Shane Mosley is Garbage and must not be considered as a rated Weterweight![]()
![]()
So losing to Floyd and drawing with Mora completely shots down Mosley at the bottom of the ranking according to your eyes Miles?
Would you completely back Berto to beat Mosley?
----
Evander Holyfield looks completely shot againts Bowe III and look on how he stopped Tyson twice.
Im positive he'll beat Mayorga again and KTFO Margarito again.
Mosley was beaten by Mayweather in such a one-sided fashion though. Mosley was in the fight for two rounds and showed absolutely nothing from that point on. There was no plan B for once Floyd decided to put the pressure on. Totally gassed. I have no idea why Mosley fought Mora, but he looked pretty poor again. He was lethargic and struggled to keep up. I actually thought Mosley deserved the win, but I saw little to suggest that he was still a force. Perhaps if he had stayed at WW and dominated Clottey or done the same to Berto I would be thinking differently, but he didn't. In three years Mosley doesn't have a win to his name and has basically looked poor for two fights on the trot.
It appears to me that he has slipped and the fighters who perform well at the elite level at the age of 40 are the exception rather than the norm. Also those fighters have the fundamentals or at least have adapted their style in some way. Hopkins and Foreman spring readily to mind. Those that didn't really adapt struggle and that goes for the likes of Jones Jr and in this case Mosley. If Mosley isn't able to go 12 hard rounds anymore, then that makes him extremely vulnerable. His defence isn't the best and he hasn't shown a great ability to adapt in fights.
In this sense it is hard to know where to rank Mosley right now. It looks as though he is way beyond his best and that is why he should have stayed at WW to make sure where he was at. To follow a career worst performance with a fight against a runner like Mora was pointless and to then follow that up with the fastest, seemingly most endurable boxer/power puncher is extremely risky. He still hits hard though, but it still took an awful long time to hack a weight drained Margarito down. He needs stamina to check Manny's chin consistently and that is where I see it being a nightmare. Mosley will land, but I'm not sure if he can land enough and then once he tires out, then the buzzsaw begins.
I love Mosley and have always loved watching him fight, so I really hope I am proven totally wrong as I have been in the past. In the past I supported the fighters I sentimentally like and said they will win. In this situation, I am supporting Mosley, but there are no wild claims of possible victory on my part. Manny has become too scary and Mosley too old. Like I say, I hope it doesn't turn out that way, but I am not optimistic.
I second that entire post..... For whatever assets Mosley HAS kept which people are focusing on, that is all well and good for most of WW, but he's up against Pac who is as dangerous as anyone who has ever walked in the ring at WW since boxing began..... While we all speculate about how much Mosley has slipped since his best days, in perspective, Pac is flawless at the moment and has no weakness which will give Mosley a chance to win....
It's just too tough.... We can argue for Mosley all day long for just about any other fight, but not against Pac...

Miles
Vernon Forrest dominated Mosley in their first fight. ( That is fine )
Winky dominated Mosley in their 1st fight. ( Fine )
Floyd dominated Mosley ( Shane is shot he must retire!! )
see that?

This version is not very far from the one that kayoed Margarito and that Mosley was the number one Welterweight at that point.
I agree.
but my point is. people nowadays would tag a fighter 'shot' from a single bout.
ROY is shot because he was consistently beaten and kayoed by BUMS.
Shane was beaten by Floyd Mayweather Jr. w/c we even expect in the 1st place and now Shane is definately shot to pieces? lets wait for guys like Canelo and Berto to beat Shane 1st before we declare this shall we?
as i stated. Evander looks horribly shot againts Bowe and went on to KTFO Mike Tyson who was the heavy favorite.
Mosley lost to those fighters because they were better than him, but he was always competitive in those losses. Against Mayweather he was competitive for only two rounds and still arguably lost the 1st round. Mosley showed next to nothing against Floyd. Sure Floyd is great, but even Hatton was well in the fight after 6. Floyd was making Mosley look like Baldomir towards the end. If Mosley is looking like Baldomir, then that is not a peak Mosley. Mosley had beaten Margarito 18 months previously and 18 months is a heck of a long time out for a man of that age. And even before then there were signs. Mosley was not the underdog against Margarito for no reason. He had struggled in fights prior to Margarito too. And now at 40 we are to expect Mosley to roll back the clock a decade and show us that the prior two performances were just a mirage.
You are trying to make it look less of a bad matchup than it really is with the bolded part above, but the Margarito showing was an ageing fighter rolling back the clock. Since then we have had a LONG layoff followed by two weak showings. There were signs before the layoff that Mosley was ageing too. Let's not pretend that this fight is about anything more than the money. The worlds best fighter is taking on a 40 year old who hasn't won in 3 years. Those are the facts. And that after Manny decided to fight a cheater who was banned from the sport. It doesn't make Manny look very good tbh.
