Not quite on par with The Wire or Sapranos but definitely worth the watch, along with Pillars Of The Earth one of the best new shows last year.

It's fairly slow paced (which I liked) and I kinda felt they should've cast somebody a little better looking than Buscemi to make the fact that all the women fancy him a little more plausible. Or maybe that was the point? Money and power is more important to women than looks?

Michael Pitt is good as is our very own Brit Stephen Graham as a young Al Capone, get on the torrents mate it's worth your while...

Only three episodes in and I am enjoying this.
As VC said not the best series HBO has done, but I like it and find it interesting.
Buscemi is damn good, I must admit. In the first episode I felt Michael Pitt was a little weak, depicting the trauma of the War, but he's growing with the series.

I guess on a related note I've just finished HBO and Spielberg''s Pacific. I had heard reports that it was very good, but not great as was Band of Brothers. For me it was great, all I had to do was avoid comparison with the masterpiece that was Band of Brothers.

I thought the Pacific didn't do character development as well as Band of Brothers but I found the combat scenes really gripping. I thought they did a great job of capturing the feeling of despair and emptiness in war.

    I found the same thing....

Although I was reading an interview with the producer just before Pacific came out, and he was highlighting the difference between the two series...
He said he wasn't trying to make another Band of Brothers... BOB was really about the friendship and how as a group the went through the Europe campaign...

Where as the Pacific is more about the terror of heavy combat, and the impact of war on the individual.. As was as from a historical point showing some of the more brutal aspects of the war against china in the South Pacific..

It would be next to impossible to beat BOB for a full rounded series that is just brilliant in every aspect...

But 2 or 3 episodes of the Pacific are amongst the best watching i've ever seen...

When Eugene Sledge first lands, and the episode following where they have to cross the airfield are just insane....

I'd certainly agree there. One negative thing I felt was there was much made of Snafu's departure at the end, when for most of the series we did not know him really.
We got a sense of three characters really.
