Kirkland will be back though. I still think he will be a champ

....Kirkland fighting Martinez looks even more laughable now . If this guy beat him in the first Martinez would ko him during ringwalk. To kirkands credit though Martinez would do that to most the guys in that division. Kirkland will be fine . Should probably hit Anne Wolfe back up
Shocking upset no matter how you put it...
Even if Ishida held a part of a title.
Kirklands wild and we've all seen that. When you live by the gun you die by the gun.
Let's not forget how Conyers had him down early in their fight.
Not being a dick or anything but I guess it's back to jail for Kirkland?
With the kind of shitty attitude he showed immidiately after the fight and the comments he's made...![]()
ok , i see mostly everyone is saying Kirkland is done as a top contedner for the 1# spot. Remember him before his jail time - totally different fighter. He has the skills , he just needs to develop and settle down on training
I love these kinds of threads after a big upset because the excuses and reasonings are alwys great for a laugh.
Why is it so hard for people to believe that these guys are human? And that even though this Japanese gentleman only had 8 KOs, he's still a pro fighter who spends his time training his body to throw a punch?
For me, Kirkland had no respectfor this guy, he walked into a great punch that he never saw coming, and he never recovered from it. No need to come up with rediculous theories like being in jail ruined his chin... lol.
Did you watch the fight though? Saying the opponent was a trained fighter is kind of silly given where you are posting, was it the first one Kirkland had stepped in the ring with? His opponent not only had a poor Ko ratio, he didn't have any visible snap at all save from the finishing punch, Kirkland without a doubt showed terrible punch resistance being knocked down the first couple of times. Maybe something did happen to him in jail, even if it where just that he was inactive for as long as he was. Kirkland is a guy who has to be in excellent shape if he wants any chance of hanging with a good fighter, just given his style. I had only seen him prior to being in jail before this, and even then there was no doubt he was wide open, but he beat some decent opponents on account of tenactity and output. Last night right from the bell he looked awful, still held his hands low and didnt' move his head walking forward, only he didn't even throw punches to offset this. I just watched it after reading the result so knew it was coming but I can't imagine it would have shocked me whatsoever if I'd seen it live, it was like WTF did Kirkland expect fighting like that. It was absolutely a case of Kirkland being that shit imo, whether it was just last night or has always been the case I'm not sure.
I remember hearing about Kirkland a few years ago and he sounded like an arsehole back then and from what i been reading he still is now.
That was the first time i have seen him fight and he looked pretty raw shitty defence too. To be fair though he looked like he was ok after the knockdowns he wasnt dizzy and wobbling and his eyes were clear he could interact with the ref he was able to go straight back in to the fight. Was hard to tell how he was affected from the final knockdown as Joe Cortez looked like he was about to pin him down but he was probably ok.
They let JMM continue against Pac after a bad first round and i think the fight might have got interesting had he made it through the first but will never know. He was getting caught far too easy though so was probably just a matter of time.
Indeed if you watched after the fight he was shocked what happened, really seems on denial why its stop early, well i guess most of the undefeated will do the same thing ex. Judah of Tzsyu, Darchinyan to Donaire, Solis to Pac, i remember Solis said after the fight with Pac.. his wifey hits harder then Pac. :![]()
Mind you, I do think he should have been allowed to continue. He was all over the place, but hardly out of it. Marquez/Pac is another one that springs to mind. That went on and rightfully so. Unless the fighter is really mentally out of it, you have to give him the opportunity to work it on out.
Cortez is a complete cunt and continually produces new evidence to prove why this is the case.
Still, Kirkland was obviously in denial. You don't get put down 3 times and say someone had no power. If there was no power then you wouldn't be going down. That final punch clearly had a bit of a kick.
TBH I really don't see too many people complainig about the stoppage, well on other forums that is.
Because let's be honest, someone will always have something to complain. If it gets stopped too late, people complain, if it's too soon they still complain.
And Kirkland I'm pretty sure doesn't have the boxing IQ of JMM to turn fights around when he's on his back. Just a gut feeling.
