Well God's existence is beyond our capacity to fathom. But it's logically absurd to reject the seemingly forced conclusion this massively complex universe must have some designer/designers behind it because you don't already know where they came from.
I do love how for atheists the problem of God coming into existence is incomprehensible for them yet they happily accept that everything else just appeared magically out of nothing for no reason. Maybe that happened with God. One day there He was just immortal, and eternal. If that isn't convincing to you then how about there was an explosion first and lots of spirits came into existence, joining up with other spirits becoming more powerful. Eventually they all became one supreme spirit over many billions of years and then this one made the universe. Doesn't that no sound so much more scientific and plausible?
As to whether God masturbates I don't know, but if that is part of His image He must look down on me and feel very proud..
The bible says he made us in his image, that means he has hands, feet, an eye, a cock etc. So what use are these to him? They must have a purpose, right?
And what colour is he?
Actually the biblical definition of image was to know both good and evil, i.e the capacity for free will. It had nothing to do with physical form.
God has no body, he has no gender. These are mortal things. Everything that exists in physical form is a creation of God. He is not part of His creation.
Oh right, so he made us in his image but he doesn't actually look like us. That makes perfect sense.
God looks like good. God is good.
Hmm.. the dudes that came up with that idea were pretty smart. It really does make sense. God is good.
It's a shame our image doesn't mean our physical image because i'd love to know how god deals with a dodgy back and stuff.
On the contrary He is like us, or rather we are like Him. He is morally expressive, able to choose good and evil. He has free will. He appreciates beauty, knowledge, learning, love, kindness etc.
We are totally created in His image.
You are confused about the term 'image'. It' doesn't apply soley to physical characterisics.
And yes God does look like good. When we live in accordance to God's values we are truly reflecting His image. When we don't live in accordance to God's values we express evil which is an absence of God.
Darkness is an absence of light, thus God is not evil, but merely evil is the absence of good or God.
OK, what are god's values? And why do we need to live by them?
Can I follow your routine? You know the score, right?
God's values are best expressed in the person of Jesus Christ. Interestingly regarding image, nowhere in the Bible does it give a single description of what Jesus looked like, other than to say the Romans pulled out his beard so we know he wasn't clean shaven.
You don't actually need to live by them for salvation. Jesus died to pay the price for your sins because humans are not capable of living a perfect life.
Living God's values for a Christian is because they love the character of their saviour and wish to emulate and live like Him, both to be pleasing to Him and also to find the true happiness that comes with living the way you were intended to live.
Imagine an eagle having free will and deciding to walk everywhere instead of soar majestically through the sky, it would be missing out on its true purpose and life.
Imagine a giraffe choosing to live off of grass, a very uncomfortable existence.
Well we humans were designed in God's image to behave in a certain way, to appreciate life in a certain way. We can refuse to do this as we have free will but it is very interesting to note that all of the ways humans defy God, and gain enjoyment apart from God result in them debasing themselves and acting far below what we are.
So we drink and take drugs which destroy our bodies and make us behave in ways that demean us. We become gluttens and slothful and our bodies become fat, out of shape and weak and sickly. We try to create new moralities and religions apart from God so that we don't need Him at all, or that He doesn't even exist. But take Him away and all we are left with is that are just shaven monkeys that ultimately evolved from slime and pond ooze and whose lives have no meaning or purpose at all.
That's why people choose to live by God's values. Not because of trying to work their way into heaven, it's a free gift you just have to accept it, but because they see themselves as more than evolved ooze and don't see the fun in being a grass eating giraffe or a ground hopping eagle.
