I don't think he would school him, Sugar Ray Leonard had some troubles vs Ayub Kalule who was a Southpaw. But the very fact people put Manny Pacquiao, in these fantasy fights vs great Welterweight fighters.

When a few years ago people thought it was suicide, that Manny Pacquiao was moving up above the 10 stone limit. Just shows how great Manny Pacquiao is IMO.

Well I'M certainly guitly of that! One other thing to consider is that of current welters, probably only Manny could weigh-in the same day at 147 as Leonard had to and fight effectively. Just about everyone else would never make weight.

i don't know just watching how hittable pacqiou is against guys like margarito makes me believe that sugar just has his number, granted we still don't know which version of margarito pacqiou fought, what i do know is ray is stronger, faster, and a MUCH better boxer than a margarito, and while pacqiou is an amazing fighter, he is a guy whose defense is his amazing offense, which really means he lacks in defense a lil and against a natural welterweight like ray who is so skilled i don't think he would go the distance.

No way Leonard would have schooled Pacquiao. Pacquiao's south paw stance and punch combination speed is more than anyone Leonard ever faced. Although at a much higher weight and older Leonard, Hagler walked though Leonard's punches. Pacquiao would have been able to land at least 20% more punches than Hagler did.

Very interesting note however about Leonard, did you know that he fought 25 times in less than a 3 year span from start of his career 77-79 until he fought his first 15 rounder with Benitez. He made an equivalent of $4 (1.5) Million in today's money for that fight. He fought Duran twice after that and made an equivalent of $23 (9) million for the first and $20 (7) Million for the second fight. He had 5 more fights and his first retirement in 1982 just 5 years of fighting after turning pro because of a detached retina.

I think you are right that Manny is faster than anyone Ray fought, but Ray handled a couple of southpaws pretty easily in Adolfo Viruet and Larry Bonds. Ray and Manny really are two different sized men. Ray was beating ranked MIDDLEWEIGHTS before he fought Benitez.

as Ice said , lt us not forget PACMAN is fighting way above his starting weight class , its unfair to throw him in with great fighters at WW etc.
it just shows how astonishing Pacman is , how many times he has jumped up in weight.

You try to name men who beat top guys across five of the original divisions and it is a damned short list. Langford, Carpentier, McLarnin, Walker, Barbados Joe Walcott and Manny.

There may be a couple of others, but not many.
