Default Question about boxing gyms (I probably sound like a loser but,)

Can a person who doesn't necessarily want to compete, but just get in good shape and use boxing maybe for a hobby or favorite pasttime, still join a boxing gym and train?

you can enter a gym just looking for a workout...or to fight....

most trainers ask you first what you want to do....

you tell him/her your goals and he'll work with you....

the only negative thing i don't like about going to a gym just 4 a workout is that you won't be trained the same as a fighter.....

    it's pointless to me.....

    GOOD LUCK....

I've found that there are many gyms that won't train you if you don't want to compete.
The thing is that it's all based on the individual gym, the best thing to do is to call
around and ask if you can train to get fit there.

    Good luck.

Have you actually gone to a gym and asked the owner? Most owners would probably be happy to take your money regardless of what your goals are. I think if you're just doing boxing just to get fit you don't have to go to a gym, most prices are out of this world with a few exceptions.

Just interested, but how much do you pay? is it really expensive in the US? Where I go at the mooment I pay a £1 per session, £2 in my previous gym before I moved back home, both in Wales.

The fee that most gyms here charge is expensive. There's a few exceptions if you can find a good amateur gym, and there's a lot of good trainers that you won't find in the yellow pages.

The gym that is closest to me just charges $5 a month. In that case you end up spending more on gas/petrol than you do on the fees.

I initially went to my gym just to keep fit. But after a few sessions two of the trainers suggested thst I might be ready for a fight in about 6 months. I initially didnt want to do it but with a bit of persuasion from the coaches I have decided to give it a go. I am 31 now so its pretty much a case of now or never.
