Default How do I d/l fights onto a DVD to watch on my DVD Player? -CC for help

Hey fellow boxing nerds, I finally got Hi-speed internet where I live out here in the cuts. So naturally I would love to d/l some great fights, burn them onto a DVD and then watch them on my big screen television. I know I have a computer that is capable of it, and I have the "Sonic" program for burning DVD's, its just I do not know how to start. I tried using the Benn vs. Barkley fight that is featured on this board, but the file type wasn't right or something, it wouldn't work. So please help me out here, where do I start? How do I do it?

    -thanks, Hulk

DVD's players aren't magic, you need to be able to speak it's language. Unless the video you d/l'd is a real DVD, then you won't be able to watch it when you put it into your DVD player. The answer, get some software such DVD convertor that can put it into the same dialect as your DVD player, I use ConvertXtoDVD. Just add your video to the software, and a dash of sugar and you should be ready to go.

By the way unless you want to insert a coin into the machine you might want to d/l the program by some other means. Check out the link Preme shared before, megadownload.net, it should get you where you need to go.

Sorry about my choice of words, it's crazy metaphore day over here. Let me know if you get all this.
If you hear a voice within you saying that I am not a painter, then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.

There are programs out there that convert files such as AVI and Mpeg to DVD format. The ones that I found seem to be alot of work, so I am still on the hunt for a program works best for me.

(You can not watch those fights on your home entertainment DVD player) They have to be converted first before you can watch them on your TV/DVD player)

I might be taking you to left field here below because I just read you question again and I think what you were asking is that you wanted to just burn that MPG file and then watch it on your tv.
You can't. You have to convert it and it takes hours. You also have to have a DVD /Reader and Writer.

Anyway...here is some more useful and maybe not so useful info for you.
(I wrote all of this before re-reading your question but no worries I type fast as hell

Ok, let me get somethings out the way here before we start.
First of all congrats on the high speed. Welcome to a whole new world

The fights you are trying to watch I from what I have seen

Been vs Barkley have are .mpg format.
    No big deal.

    You need a video player.

I suggest you do the following because you will need this in the future.

    http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Co...k_download.htm

You don't need nothing more than the standard as you will see there are
3 version basic, standard and full.

Choose standard and install it. just keep clicking next and don't check
any extra features just istall it is in it's default state.

This will for the moment, install Media Player Classic and you will and should
be able to watch the mpg video file with that.

You will also be able to wath avi files from then on to since you installed the
necessary codecs for that format when you installed klite codec pack.

    Moving on...

You might want to download an external video player such as:
These are the most widely used video players at the moment.

    VLC media player
    AlShow
    KMPlayer

You can do a google and find them on the net they are free.
I don't like VLC but others swear by it. I like AlShow the best.

Now that you have all of this downloaded and installed, you will be able to watch
anything (just about) I don't know what you wont maybe RM files but who the phuke uses RM lol

    Moving on...

Since the file you are talking about Benn vs Barkley is an .mpg file, it will have to
be converted now this is the pain in the ass because converting not only takes hours and hours
but it sucks a lot of juice and will slow your pc down a bit.

I personaly am not down with convertin files of any kind into DVD's. Takes too long.

I would rather find the fight in DVD and then burn it. A lot faster but a lot harder to get
for many reasons but they are out there on private torrent sites but torrents sites requiere
a lot of participition and you will have to share too. You can't just download and say goodnight. They have restrictions and how much you can download before you are banned for leeching and not keeping your sharing ratio up above 1.0. A whole new world for you now
    that you have high speed.

Do as I have suggested about and we can later talk about what you want to do. I just leave you with things to think about for the moment.

    Peace.

Thank you gentlemen. CC's to all. You fukers are depressing me a bit honestly with all this "Converting takes hours and hours..." shat. Fuk that. I know it is not nearly as simple as just d/l ing music, but there must be an easier way. I have this Sonic program for burning dvd's and I heard about this Nero program or something that is supposed to be better and help as well. Maybe this is a stupid question but, what about just movies? Like if I paid for the movie off of fukin netflix or somethin then d/l'd that, could I burn that onto a DVD much easier than say, a .mpg file fight? Thanks.

I think Danny G covered it. It may sound confusing at first but it's pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Just practice I guess. Does this response entitle me to a CC? :P

I wish there were a more simple method but there isn't one.

You got a movie from NetFlix?
I am sure those are copy protected and I don't even know what Netflix is.
I guess you get a movie from netflix is a rental of the DVD?
Any DVD that is copy protected can be decrypted with a program called AnyDVD.

But ripping a DVD does not take long because the structure is there.

    Here is an example:

These fights in AVI and or MPG. If I wanted to watch these on my TV, I would have to convert them which would take hours.

(What a DVD looks like inside using Explorer)
Here is what a DVD structure looks like. This would take me 5 minutes to burn. This is because this is what a DVD looks like. So basicly any movie like AVI or MPG etc. Has to be converted into what looks like those folders above.

I hope this is clear if not keep asking

Get ConvertXtoDVD you can easily convert most video formats to DVD without worrying about it. It works great for me. Here's how it works add the video, click convert and it does the burning all in one go.

If you are going to start converting, many people try and do this while they are sleeping and or have two computers. 1 for surfing and the other for converting.

    Hulk,
Heres my advice to you from someone who was in the exact same position you are in right now.

    1. I bought an external hard drive 1st to store fights cause TRUST me you can't convert & burn as fast as you can download. Links/Files/fights WILL expire and again their isn't enough hours to download & convert & burn everything you want at once. The external hard drive will help you store the fights you want to see while you convert & burn other fights you had 1st.

    2. Instal ConvertXtoDVD, simple and works well. Yes it takes a while to convert but trust me it's all trial and error and you can add your own menu, title, background picture and all if you want to make your DVD's a little cooler . I usually convert over night or when I'm out, I'll set it up and leave somewhere and when I come back my fights converted and ready to be burned.

    3. Yes it takes time, yes theres some work that's gotta be put in but trust me watching Salvador Sanchez vs. Wilfredo Gomez on my big screen is one of the most joyus things I can do. Being able to take 2 or 3 fights with me and play them on my Sony Walkman DVD player is one of the most satisfying things I can do during my lunch every day of the week.

So listen Hulk at 1st a lot if not all will not make sense and your gonna make mistakes and it's gonna get to you and your gonna have some problems figuring things out but again the pay off once you figure out what your doing and you learn things as you go along is great. Please believe me you won't regret it.

CC and Thanks. Basically its like this:
My Dad paid for this high speed satellite internet cus thats all we can get here out in the cuts. AND he did it becus he thought that with it be could finally d/l fights and he is not satisfied with just watching em on our 19 inch monitor. He wants em burned onto a DVD to be watched on the big screen. Also he does not think it should be hard at all, should be just as simple as music, and what not, and wants me to call the HP computer people, since our computer is an HP and ask those fukers how to do it. Honestly i do not think they are going to be much help...but who knows. Trying to explain to him that it is MUCH MUCH easier to just watch the fights on youtube for right now till I figure out how to do this crazy shat has not gone over well. He thinks that there is some simple solution to d/ling and watching FREE fights and movies off the net with hi-speed internet. Maybe he's right I dunno, but damnit I trust my fellow boxing nerds and my fellow boxing nerds are tellin me something entirely differnt. Thanks to all who have responded. I'll get round to CCn' you all trust me.

Okay, this may sound stupid BUT is there any way that any of you guys can give me a link to an already converted fight video, one I that is either all ready to be burned to a disc or close to being ready. I'm not asking for a bunch of free converted fights, just one to get the ball rolling, I'm trying to d/l that convertDVDx thing too, so i can convert that MPG Benn vs. Barkley file and others. Are most fight videos MPG or AVI?

    I suggest you join

    http://fights.worldboxingvideoarchive.com/

    They have everything you need.

    BTW...

Incase you don't already know, that is a torrent site.
Don't go downloading like crazy because it will affect your ratio.

As a matter of fact, don't download nothing, go straight to the forum section, read, and you can ask for all the help you need there.

    CC again and Thank You.
Your original post helped me A LOT. I d/l'd that Windows media player classic, and the fight played well on that. Then I d/l'd that convertxDVD thing from its official site, not the mega download site, I tried that and it wouldn't work right. So I got the trial 90 day version of convertxtoDVD thing and I successfully converted and burned that Benn vs. Barkley fight, which was bout a 4 min fight, and honestly it only took bout 10 mins or so to do once I started convertin and burning, and except for the water mark on the screen becus its a trial version of the software, the fight played perfectly on my bro's PS2 and portable DVD player. I was very pleased, thanks again, I'm glad I got the ball rollin on this. Only thing I need to do really, is find larger videos, cus once I put that one on DVD it was real pixalated, also I will need to get the full version of that convertxDVD thing too. Thanks.
