    its a difficult one ,
Jones was a shadow of his former self , Calzaghe being GREAT , is always open to debate , you oviously think he is , which is fine , but i personally dont think beating Hopkins and Jones at the advanced stage of their careers makes him great. Calzaghe won the fight and as you said he has beaten every fighter he has faced.

i think his record speaks for itself?

i think hopkins even tho he is old is fighting really well at the moment so i wouldnt call him shot or past his prime

Joe fought Hopkins and Jones at times that favored Joe's chances....it's just the way the chips fell. Both Hopkins and Jones took the fights wanting to win but physically couldn't get it done anymore.

I think Joe is a great fighter, but other than the wins over Lacy, Kessler, and maybe Robin Reid he never tested himself against prime fighters who posed a threat to him. AND old Hopkins and Roy knocked him down in the first round...that makes me question how the prime versions of those fighters would have handled Joe.

People are for the right or wrong reasons ALWAYS question how legitimate an undefeated record is....people STILL give Rocky Marciano crap for his 49-0-0. Consider it an honor that people give Joe crap for his record, he's earned it and in any argument you can at least pride yourself in the fact that he's not Svenn Ottke

Roy was shot dumbass. I am not sure he beat Hopkins IMO, it was a close fight and Hopkins made Calzaghe miss way more then JOnes did. Kessler is a really, really good fighter in no way 1 dimensional and Calzaghe did a great job against him. Lacy Was overrated... Manfredo gave him a tough fight.

Calzaghe is a great fighter IMO NO DOUBT, but how he performed against these guys especially Jones at this stage in his career MEANS NOTHING. Because Jones hasn't been Jones in a long time, Tarver won his fight against Jones nearly every round as well in their third fight. Same with Glen Johnson except they both badly hurt or knocked Jones out in those fights.

Well i still hate him so now he is 46-0 so what last nights fight was a farce Roy fought like he didn't want to win and the scores of 118-109 were a joke his record will always be debatable. I thought his win over Kessler was good and ive said this before i think he would get a lot of respect if he finished his career against a true threat say vs Hopkins or Dawson perhaps in wales.

so Kevin McBride and Danny williams are 2 of the greatest heavyweights because they beat Mike tyson

so why dont i hear Trevor Berbick rated as a great........he did beat ALI or Larry Donald as he beat evander holyfield

beating old men who are past there best doesnt warrent a pass into greatness

calzaghes always worked on percenteges which heavly favour him to win......... jones is old and washed up you all saw it again lastnight, before that joe was heavy favorite to beat a 43 year old hopkins, eubank came out of retirement with 1 weeks notice to fight him, he only fought reid after reid was cooked by a 41 year old malinga, he only fought woodhall after he had beat clean layed out a few months earlier by a 40 year old etc etc etc

when has he been in a fight which before hand you look at and say " goodness me thats goner be tough he may get beat here" never. he's been a good boxer and only a real champion in the last 4 years as before the wbo was as real a title as the wbf belt is now. he was only seen as a world champion in britan..........people in other countrys didn't even know who he was

he's good, i used to be a fan but he isnt great

Well im not a Joe Calzaghe hater but if you give Joe Calzaghe any real credit. For beating RJJ i think your seriously being biased, RJJ last stoppage win was in 2002 against Clinton Woods, and in his last comeback fights he didn't show stamina or a killer instinct. And he only showed flashes of his old self, "flashes" being the key word here.

Give him credit for beating Chris Eubank although he was weight drained which does take away from Joe Calzaghe's win. It was still a good performance and Chris Eubank still had quite alot left in the tank, which showed in his great performance's against Carl Thompson.

Give him credit for beating Mikkel Kessler, who was the number 2 man in the division at that time. Who was a very dangerous opponent who has very good skills, and can punch.

Give him credit for beating Bernard Hopkins, although disputable Bernard Hopkins still has alot left in the tank. Which showed against Antonio Tarver, Kelly Pavlik.

But i will give him no credit for beating a shot RJJ, or beating the overhyped Jeff Lacy. Who was struggling against mediocre opposition even before he got embarrassed against Joe Calzaghe.

    IMO

Lacy- Credit because joe really did put on a one sided performance. Lacy was the favourite wasnt he? Joe really did show him what for in that fight!! Nothing can be taken away from such a great win for him.

Manfredo- Biggest boxing farce I have ever seen, I feel sorry for everybody who travelled so far to see him woop this lightmiddlweight. therefore he cant get any credit here.

Bika- Not much credit at all, although he was tricky, he could of fought better!

Kessler- most outstanding performance of his career IMO, proved he was the best at 168 and you cant take anything away from him.

Hopkins-Initally i was a bit edgey but after he schooled Pavlik it shows how good Hopkins really is. I think he deserves credit from coming from behind and winning the fight, although it was close I was happy that JC got the nod.

Jones jr- Dissapointment. I knew JC would do the goods on him because jones is WAY past his best. But he needed a good paycheck and there is nothing more to it. It was a good performance but against a fighter who was no where near as good as he use to be.

I want JC to fight Dawson to really shut people up and fight Froch if he beats pascal. Hes got it in him, he proved it last night. Although he cant be doing any of this fancy shit because Froch and Dawson would actually knock him out.

I'm pretty much going to echo what everyone else has said. Calzaghe's best win was against Kessler, both in terms of performance and in terms of his opponents skill-level at the time. Lacy was also a good victory, regardless of what people now think about him. Hopkins was also a great victory, although I feel Hopkins edged the fight, it was close and it could've gone either way. Regarding the RJJ fight, Jones was clearly a shadow of what he used to be; Calzaghe performed very well, but this version of Jones does not rank with Hopkins or Kessler in terms of the challenge he presented to Calzaghe.

People are always going to deride him because he took so long to fight elite, well-known competition. It's as simple as that. It doesn't mean Calzaghe isn't a great fighter and an incredibly skilled one, it also doesn't mean he would've have had a very good chance of beating that opposition, but we'll never know and some people are always going to hold it against him.

I really think the Manfredo fight irreparably damaged Calzaghe's reputation.

The things that really makes me laugh is the fact that these people always tip him to lose and only find the excuses after the wins Still amzes me how everbody 'knew' Lacy was so overhyped, when perhaps 2 or 3 people even suggested it beforehand

Hopkins was beat by about 4 rounds. It wasn't close and calzaghe should have won by unanimous decision if one of the judges wasn't in the bag for hopkins.

Calzaghe deserves full credit for his win against Kessler, so why not do it again? That would do it for me, he beats a prime injury free Mikkel Kessler again and he is an all time great, beating past their prime legends who have had a far tougher run of fights than Calzaghe really proves nothing at all. Jones has been done for years and Hopkins, marvellous that he is at his age is pushing 44 years old!
Both Hopkins and Jones have been PVV stars for the past 14-15 years and it has taken it's toll, yet i still give Hopkins a good chance in a rematch and i definately think Kessler could upset Joe balls in a return bout.
