Pwill v. PBF - Who wins and why?

After defeating Winky and moving into many top five p4p lists, Pwill declared that he would fight anyone from 147-160. At the same time, former #1 p4p PBF has hinted at coming back from retirement.

Pwill v. PBF is a logical fight for p4p supremacy although a fight pitting PBF/Pwill against Mosley would be equally significant. As seen in his negotiations with Marquez, PBF doesn't want to fight at below 147 and has indicated that he also doesn't want to fight Mosley. Pwill's name recognition increased dramatically after his near shut out of Winky. Both fighters bring a lot to the table - a fight between the two makes sense.

Who do you think would win the hypothetical fight?

Upon first glance, I may lean toward Pwill because of his height and reach advantages. Pwill also has the advantage of being a volume puncher. Then again, Quintana beat him by moving around, and some would argue that Quintana is a very poor man's PBF. On the other hand, Pwill knocked out Quintana in dramatic fashion the next time around; thus, he may have figured that style out. He also looked uncharacteristically flat in his first fight with Quintana (not to take anything away from Quintana).

I'd also rather see PBF fight Pwill than Pacman or Hatton II.

depends on how Williams makes 147, if he kills himself to make weight like he did in the 1st Quintana fight i see PBF countering Williams all night for the UD, if he makes weight comfortably like he did for the Quintana rematch, i see it being a very comfortable close fight

Paul Williams is a stylistic nightmare for PBF. He doesnt have the power to stop him or back him off, and he doesnt have the workrate to decision him. He would punch between some of Williams shots and maybe win a few rounds but Paul wins this one no question in my mind.

I think PBF is the only welterweight to have a real chance at beating PWill but that freakish 82" reach coupled with his 1,000 punches are plain out nightmarish. You can not prepare for a guy like him at welterweight. You need a lot of luck. Such as him coming in feeling off, not peaking at the right time for the fight, struggling to make weight, etc. Floyd's movement would wreak havoc to PWill but he already is aware of that and so he can prepare for that. You just can not precisely prepare for a welterweight with PWill's attributes. A guy that tall, with a reach longer than almost all heavyweights, a tall guy with MASSIVE volume punching, a tall guy who fights great inside, great chin, I'm done typing. What kind of freak is this?

Williams is way too tall and far too busy for PBF. Williams pitches a shutout on this one.

That being said though, I still think Floyd would win on points... But it's not the result I would be rooting for..

Williams pitching a shut out against Floyd is a pretty ridiculous statement.

All this from Williams performance against Winky Wright who is a defensive great but has a defensive style completely different then Floyd's defensive style and movement. Wright presented the perfect style for Williams to look good against like Emanuel Stewart said it was Wrights worst matchup possible. Williams wouldnt be getting off 100 punches a round against a moving target, a stable target all day but not a mover. I think Floyd has a style to give him fits and 2 fights ago he was outboxed by Quintana, he won the rematch in a first round tko but i doubt he'd do that to Floyd.

I think at 147 Floyd can beat him on points. He wouldnt let him get off.

Exactly how I feel about it. There isn't anything Floyd can do against the work rate. He might counter and land a few nice shots but he isn't getting Williams out of there. And he won't win rounds potshotting and throwing 40-50 punches each round.

Williams decisions him handily. A nightmare for Floyd or anyone really.

Quintana used movement and well timed counters to keep Williams off him and with this he lowered Williams workrate big time which then lead to a clear UD win.

Now i know he beat Quintana in the rematch but 1 minute of a round to me doesn't prove that he can handle slick moving counter punchers.

Mayweather is a slick moving counter puncher who is slicker, quicker, more accurate and smarter than Quintana. He would hit Williams whenever he wanted to and with is defense would frustrate Williams.

Mayweather wins a clear decision.

This is a bad matchup for Williams not the other way round.

I say Paul Williams wins by UD if he makes weight well at 147. I don't say this to discredit Mayweather as he is clearly the better boxer, but I believe PW is too big. He honestly doesn't belong in the 147lb division.

I wouldn't take this fight if I was a short welter - anything under 5' 10".

I don't agree with you, but let me ask you this: would you rather see PBF fight Williams or the Pac/Hatton winner? I say Williams hands down.
