    Default Shoulder Roll question

I have another question: when I use the shoulder roll I find I am extremely open to right hooks to the temple yet there are guys even in my gym that use it with great success and never get hit by it. For rights to the chin its great but I can't figure out what happens when they go to the temple.

It's not a shoulder movement, you roll away from the right hand. The motion is somewhat like throwing a left hook. You're rolling onto your right leg, slightly leaned back and to the right with your left heel raised.
If you hear a voice within you saying that I am not a painter, then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.

I saw a martial arts video where the guy pointed his head forward, rolled his shoulders way up as he peeked through his hands guarding his face. He said that offered the best protection. I tried it and that strange position made my neck muscles hurt in no time at all. Not for me.

I think to flow with the direction of the hook to the temple and do what Chris has said with your legs or roll with it then have your head go under it and come up on the outside of his arm is the answer for you.
You can have your elbow help his arm on its way through if you are caught leaning back slightly cause your elbow comes up naturally anyway.
You can also get a result by folding your left knee in and going down and under so that as you turn with his shot you are loading your right hip and shoulder up; then to go out underneath his spent arm you are changing hip direction and you can throw a loaded right hand as your feet then take you out to where his hook just came from.

    I can explain it.
But I cant understand it for you.
