Fernando Montiel came back from his KO loss to Nonito Donaire by taking on what I thought was a more formidable than necessary challenge, Nehomar Cermeno. Cermeno's last few fights had taken the bloom off the rose a bit, but the guy can box and the first two rounds were competitive!
In the last ten seconds of round two Montiel lands a liver shot and, after a delayed reaction, Cermeno goes to a knee at the bell.
Then, despite being on his feet, Cermeno refuses to come out for round three and the ref stands in front of him and counts him out.
Weird.
Good win for Montiel.
