Bob Arum Predicts Zou Shiming vs. Brian Viloria in 2014 - Boxing News

I appreciate that Bob Arum has his salesman cap on here and he is trying to big up Zou as the 2nd coming of Jesus, but is he really so good that...

    a) He deserves to be getting paid £300,000$ for his first pro fight in a 4 round bout?
    b) He could win a Major Recognized World Title within a year
    c) He could fight (and maybe beat) Brian Viloria for a in 2014?

Granted I've never seen him fight, so I'm asking what the big deal is that makes Arum, Roach & co think he could go so far so quick?

I watched all his fights in the Olympics. They were all ugly messes. Judging by that he'll be a proper shit pro to watch.

The money is obviously to do with the Chinese angle. Probably have over 50 million viewers or something ridiculous like that

I'd say it's because of money, they probably notice that's he is a light flyweight at 31 years old and has not too long of a pro career ahead of him.

So if they sell him like this and people take notice, they can make the most out of what little time they will have with him.

I watched him throughout the last 2 Olympic Games, and I have to say he was very good in 2008 but not so impressive during 2012.

Amatuers and pro ranks are two different worlds (until the changes come) so Arum could just end up with his foot in his mouth. Its ass nine to even be talking about a guy who has yet to field a professional punch meeting Brian Viloria HBO will and are pushing this with both hands, feet and shovels.

Dejavu. The same type of announcement was made by Arum about Rigondeaux. Rigo has done ok but he sure was not fast tracked to world dominance like Arum suggested he would.

Man it took Rigo a little over a year to win a world title.

Yeah he got a paper trinket but was supposed to take over the world and they were going to get him there quick because of his age.

11 days from today he fights Nonito for 3 world titles at 32.

4 years for that sorta stuff is quick.

Not to insult your intelligence or anything mate, I just disagree with you.

I feel strange defending Rigondeaux because I'm not a fan. I think Donaire is going to KO Rigo early, but he has performed much better than OK.

He's fighting Donaire next. If he wins that its a pretty big deal. Particularly to do writhing a couple of years as a pro

I agree, but Rigo has done a little better than ok. All the hype is about this first big promotion in China.
Arum, just like SHOWTIME with Floyd, can and will say anything he wants to make money.
I as not a Rigo fan.

I think that's a good thing yeh. Hopefully these guys have someone in there ear reminding them Arum would fast track his own grandma to the dentist if it meant getting her silver fillings. A guy should have to wait more then a year for a title shot. Even then it's hard to believe Rigo is there with only 11 fights. Personally, amatuer hype and build up has only been a pet peeve.

Bob Arum gave Jesus Gonzalez an absolute boatload of money, too, and that didn't pan out so well for anybody.

It's about money. Getting the Arum name known in China, tapping into millions of Chinese PPVs down the line, getting Chinese boxers and fans to believe that dealing with Arum will bring you wealth.
Shiming will be somewhat protected his first fights, but Arum is smart and will have asked for advice from people he trusts, so I would say Shiming is not totally hopeless.
It will take a few years but China, with it's billions, could produce some great boxers.

    A. As he is a big attraction and is why tickets will sell yes he deserves to get paid a lot.

    B. if he is spoon fed an opponent for a vacant title

    C. If B happens they could cash inning him in a super fight in China. Only see Viliria winning.

He has slowed down so much that I can't see him being that good as a pro. Rigo still has speed but Zou looked so slow in the Olympics.
