I don't know what Malik Scott was supposed to earn from that fight. But here's a novel idea: WITHHOLD HIS PURSE.
Haven't read Word One about this yet... and I'm not sure it will happen. But here's someone trying to overanalyze the KO and claim it was legit:
GIF: Deontay Wilder knocks out Malik Scott, but did the punches really land? - Bad Left Hook
Advice to the author of the piece: Don't overanalyze it. No matter how much super slo-mo is used, it's clear the left was not a KO punch.... and the right didn't even land.
But everyone immediately cries "FIX", when in reality there are TWO possibilities:
FIX.... or FEAR
To me, "fix" is where the result is preordained by a 3rd party, to satisfy some ulterior motives outside of the ring itself. The "diver" gets paid for his troubles.... and he knows what he's supposed to do. Whereas "fear" is exactly that. Fear is what Bruce Seldon showed in his fight against Mike Tyson. Tyson barely grazed Seldon's head with one of his bombs..... and Seldon immediately looked for a soft place to land. Then he got up all "groggy" and shit and played the hurt part perfectly. IMO..... Scott's case was probably more "fear" than "fix". Didn't they mention that Scott had been dropped in sparring with Wilder previously? So if that's correct..... then Scott already knew that Wilder packs a punch.
But "fix" or "fear"...... don't matter. Withhold the guy's purse, because that was a shameful act in a boxing ring..... and he denied a paying crowd from seeing an honest effort from a professional boxer.
We were all mostly hoping for a competitive fight from Scott, so we could at least gauge Wilder's potential a little better. But instead we got nothing. At least the next fight promises to be the REAL test....... finally. Either Arreola or Stiverne should put up an honest effort against Wilder, unlike Malik.
