    Default Moorer vs. Mercer- 1996.

Who would have won? We never got a chance to see that one... not that it would have meant anything special, but it would have been good to see.

I think Mercer would have taken the punches and stopped Moorer. If anyone could take his power, Ray could.

This would have been a very evenly matched fight and possibly one of high action.

Ray would have been capable of finishing the shaky chinned Moorer if he caught him good or too often. And Moorer could bang but his power at HW is overrated a bit and Ray had a very solid chin.

Even still I do think Moorer could possibly score a KO against Ray as well, he still had the power and Moorer was a much better boxer skill wise.

I think Moorer by decision but it could end either way by KO as well.

Honestly see it go the same way Mercer beat Morrison, just taking the bombs and stopping Moorer when he gets clipped on the chin.

Actually for once I think I agree with you. The Morrison fight seems like it could be a pretty close analog.

Depending on which versions of Moorer and Mercer you have mentally it could go either way. Moorer with Atlas could weather the storm and rally after a knockdown. Mercer could be merciless as he was vs Lewis and Morrison or he could be lazy as he was vs Holmes. I actually think Mercer would do very well because Moorer was a guy focused on fighting on the inside and it would give Ray too many opportunities to connect

Mercer had a decent stride in 96. This was a great contrast fight in Moorers fast hands and vulnerability while Mercer let punches bounce off his big lunchbox head with steady pressure. Moorer was looking spotty late 96 and being stunned by Botha and Shultz, I think Mercers jab has always been a bit underrated and he could actually out jab Moorer which would be a surprise. Mercer by tko.

That's the thing: The Mercer that fought Holmes wasn't lazy or lethargic, he just got beat by someone with way more experience. lololol......

He couldn't bomb Holmes the way Tyson and Shavers did. He couldn't, and never did have, the type of work rate that Holyfield did- he just simply got beat due to his style.

Give it up to Holmes on that one. But, the loss Mercer had against Jesse Fergusson is another story- he just was a bum that night.
