In a professional career that has had more letdowns than achievements, 2000 Olympic Super Heavyweight Gold Medalist Audley Harrison takes on Michael Sprott for the vacant European title tonight at Alexandra Palace in London, England.There’s unfinished business in this one for “A Force”. Seemingly back on the rise in his pro career, he faced Sprott three years ago. After boxing well for two rounds, Harrison was suddenly KO’d in the third. A further loss on points in a bruising battle against Martin Rogan would follow in late 2008.
In Sprott, Harrison faces a man also in the tail end of his pro career. Much like Harrison, this must be his last chance to break into the big time. Sprott has won one of a three fight series against common opponent Danny Williams and also lost an entertaining British title fight against the rugged Matt Skelton in 2004.It’s a fight that I for one am surprised to be seeing.
Harrison has had chance after chance to impress but after his Prizefighter win late last year it might still be his time to shine.Sprott, after a pro career that promised so much now seems to have settled into the role as opponent in his recent fights.I think Harrison gets his revenge on points, but, like last time, it will only take one mistake and Sprott could spring the surprise KO win.
