Big fight card tonight at Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez in Bayamon, Puerto Rico that sees homegrown WBO champions Wilfredo Vasquez Jr and Roman Martinez keep hold of their title belts in explosive fashion.
WBO junior feather titlist Vasquez Jr, 24-0-1 (15), managed to stamp out early stiff opposition from challenger Zsolt Bedak before taking control midway through the contest.
By the later rounds, Vasquez Jr was handing out a stern lesson to the Hungarian native before closing the show via a knock out of Bedak, 15-1 (5), at 1:12 of the tenth.
Bedak had come into the contest undefeated but, having never faced an opponent even close to world class level, found the gulf in class against Vasquez Jr too wide to navigate successfully.
Vasquez Jr retains his belt for the first time but could soon face the challenge of far more experienced 48 bout veteran southpaw Sod Kokeitgym of Thailand.
The same could be said of the opponent of WBO junior lightweight champ Martinez, 24-0-1 (15), who managed an even quicker result, knocking out Nicaragua’s Gonzalo Mungia, 17-7 (3), at 1:12 of the fourth round.
Martinez successfully defends his crown for the second time and will likely meet top rated challenger Ricky Burns of Scotland in the near future.
Hanna Gabriel, 10-0-1 (6), of Costa Rica annexed the vacant WBO Female light middle strap in a hurry, finishing off Gardy Pena, 9-2-2 (6), at 0:20 of the first round.
