IBF welter kingpin Jan Zaveck wowed a hometown audience in Ljubljana, Slovenia with a fifth round stoppage of opponent Paul Delgado at Sports Park Arena.
It didn’t take long for the skill and experience advantage of the champion to show as Delgado was in deep water as early as the second frame, hitting the canvas on two occasions in that round.
Delgado managed to beat the count on both occasions and regrouped somewhat but was never able to trouble Zaveck, who had the challenger in dire straits once again by the fifth.
Later that round when Delgado took a knee the contest, the bout was stopped, putting an end to the largely one way traffic.
Zaveck retains the IBF belt for the third time, improving to 31-1 (18), while Delgado drops to 25-10-1 (4), after losing his first title clash.
Also on the bill, Christina Hammer, 9-0 (7), won the vacant WBF middleweight belt by halting Diana Kiss, 6-3-1 (5), in the eighth round of a scheduled ten.
In light heavyweight action, WBF International ruler Denis Simic, 25-1 (14), outpointed Sandro Siproshvili, 24-8 (11), over ten frames.
