Mikey Garcia Loses WBO Crown On Scales, Crushes Lopez In Dallas

Despite failing to make weight and losing the WBO featherweight crown on the scales, Mikey Garcia had no problems in wiping out former titleholder Juan Manuel Lopez at American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX on Saturday night.

The 25 year old from Oxnard, CA immediately imposed his authority on Puerto Rican left-hander Lopez, using an accurate jab to cut the distance between the two and gain control.

Lopez, 29, who had lost two previous world title bouts by stoppage, again proved to be less than durable at world level as he was on the canvas in the second round from a hard right hand from Garcia.

The former champion beat the count and survived the round but could not get an offense going, missing a large majority of his efforts, nor dissuade Garcia from imposing his will in the third.

The fourth proved to be disastrous for Lopez, who was gunned down for good by a lethal left from Garcia at 1:34 of the frame.

After a superb performance, Garcia moves to 32-0 (27), and is likely to move up to super feather, where he soon could face another Puerto Rican fighter, WBO 130 lb champ Rocky Martinez.

Chinny banger Lopez drops to 33-3 (30) and is reportedly ready to jump to super feather as well.

On the undercard, welter Terrance Crawford, 21-0 (15), stayed perfect with a sixth round halting of Alejandro Sanabria, 34-2-1 (25), and light middle contender Vanes Martirosyan, 33-0-1 (21), handed out a second round drubbing of Ryan Davis, 24-11-3 (9).
