By Boxing Press November 28th, 2006 All Press Releases

Francisco Lorenzo will face Cristobal Cruz in the co-main event at Cicero Stadium this Friday night, it was announced today by Dominic Pesoli, President of 8 Count Productions. The super featherweight bout is part of December Frenzy, a nine bout evening of world class professional boxing presented by 8 Count Productions and Bob Arum’s Top Rank.

Lorenzo, 26-3 (14KO’s) of the Dominican Republic, is riding a seven bout winning streak including a win over world ranked Nate Campbell on June 14, 2005. His only losses have been to world champion Juan Diaz and the highly regarded Courtney Burton and Victoriano Sosa, all of which went the distance.

On June 29, 2006, Lorenzo won a decision over Priest Smalls at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida taking the WBC CABOFE super featherweight title.

The heavy handed Cruz, 33-8 (22KO’s) of Tijuana, Mexico is coming off a sixth round stoppage of Leonardo Resendiz on September 8, 2006. His career includes outstanding battles with world ranked fighters including Jorge Solis, Hereberto Ruiz, Juan Ruiz and Jose Miguel Aguiniga.

Said Pesoli, “I’ve seen both of these guys and this has all the makings of a great fight. We’ve had quite a terrific run of outstanding fights this year. Obviously the continued support of the Chicago fight fans is a testament to that.”
