Peltz Boxing Puts On Mtagwa vs. Valtierra For NABF Title In Philly

The NABF featherweight title will be the prize when Rogers Mtagwa, of Philadelphia, PA, and Aldo Valtierra, of Mexico City, meet over 12 rounds for the vacant belt on Friday evening, July 20, at the New Alhambra, Swanson & Ritner Streets in South Philadelphia.

Telefutura/Univision will televise the Mtagwa-Valtierra championship fight as part of a two-hour telecast from 8 to 10 p.m. The card is promoted by Don Chargin Productions in association with Peltz Boxing Promotions and Joe Hand Promotions.

Mtagwa, whose 22-11-2 record with 17 knockouts was compiled against some of the best 126-pounders around, comes into the July 20 fight fresh from a second-round KO over Terrance Roy, of Covington, TN, on April 11 in Charleston, SC.

Prior to that, Mtagwa seemed unlucky to lose his United States Boxing Association (USBA) crown on Nov. 10, 2006 in Cicero, IL, when he was judged a 12-round split decision loser to Martin Honorio, of Mexico, in an all-out war.

Mtagwa won the vacant USBA title in 2005 when he K0d Joe Morales, of San Antonio, TX, in 10 rounds. He successfully defended that title twice, scoring knockouts over Art Simonyan, of Los Angeles, CA, and over Alvin Brown, of Kansas City, KS.

Other top names on Mtagwa’s record include Orlando Salido, Fernando Trejo, Agapito Sanchez, Jose Reyes and Edwin Santana.

Valtierra, 36, has a 24-8 record, 13 knockouts. In his last fight he stepped up to 130 pounds and lost a 10-round decision to Jason Litzau on April 25 in the latter’s hometown of St. Paul, MN. Prior to that, Valtierra had won three in a row.

His opponents, also top shelf, include Juan Pablo Chacon, Daniel Attah, Hector Acero Sanchez, Antonio Diaz and Steve Luevano.

Valtierra has never been stopped while Mtgwa has been K0d twice.

Seven additional fights, including another appearance by North Philadelphia knockout puncher, welterweight Mike Jones (8-0, 8 K0s), complete the program.

Tickets priced at $40, $55 and $65 are on sale at the offices of Peltz Boxing Promotions, Inc. (215-765-0922) or at www.peltzboxing.com.
