Boxing Result: Roy Jones Jr. Outfights Felix Trinidad In Battle Of Legends

By Richard Eberline January 20th, 2008 All Boxing Results

Last night, Madison Square Garden was the scene of a massive Don King Productions bill headlined by a ten round clash between former multi-weight world champions Roy Jones Jr., and Felix Trinidad at light heavyweight.

Despite being the naturally smaller man, Trinidad largely went forward during the bout in an attempt to put pressure on Jones, mounting a sustained body attack to slow down the still fast Florida native.

But even at 39 years of age, Jones had enough skill to avoid most of Trinidad's efforts and cracked the Puerto Rican legend with countless scathing counters including a right hand that canvassed "Tito" in the seventh.

Trinidad, 42-3 (35), continued to press Jones, 52-4 (38), but was sent down again in the tenth before losing a wide decision on the cards 117-109 and 116-110 (twice).

On the undercard, former IBF Light Middle Champion Roman Karmazin, 36-3-1 (23), was shockingly stopped by Alex Bunema, 29-5-2 (15), in the tenth round of their WBA Intercontinental bout.

40 year old former heavyweight world title challenger Andrew Golota, 41-6-1 (33), overcame the aspirations of hot prospect Mike Mollo, 19-2 (12), over twelve rounds for the WBA Fedelatin title.

Light welter contender Devon Alexander, 14-0 (8), further matriculated with a twelve round decision over former WBO titlist DeMarcus Corley, 31-8-1 (17).

Ex-WBA Welterweight titlist Luis Collazo, 28-3 (13), decisioned Edvan Dos Santos Barros, 9-5-1 (7), over twelve rounds.
