Matthew Macklin Comes Back With A Win In America

In Atlantic City, last night, on the undercard of Guillermo Rigondeaux’s WBA/WBO Super Bantam title defense against Jospeh Agbeko, Matthew Macklin of Birmingham, England, scored a Unanimous Points victory (96-94; 97-93; 98-92) over Lamar Russ of Wilmington, North Carolina, in a ten round Middleweight Contest.

Macklin was originally scheduled to fight American – Willie Nelson, but Nelson was forced to withdraw less than four weeks ago with an elbow injury. Replacement – Russ, suffers his first defeat in fifteen contests – now 14 wins (7 by KO) 1 loss.

Macklin was stopped in the third by Middleweight titleholder Gennady Golovkin in June earlier this year and last night was his first fight since the loss, under the tutelage of his former rival – Jamie Moore.
