    Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum announced today that the WBC No.1-rated welterweight contender Carlos “El Potro” Abregu had signed an exclusive contract with Top Rank.

    Abregu, one of the division’s most exciting fighters, will make his Top Rank and his 2013 debut next Saturday, April 27. He’ll be facing Top-Five contender Antonin Decarie, in Buenos Aires, in a 12-round welterweight bout for the vacant WBC Silver Championship. (more…)

    Brian Rose says he is ‘honoured’ to be the first British boxer to wear the ‘Lonsdale badge’ on their shorts as an outright holder of the Lord Lonsdale belt in his clash with Joachim Alcine. Rose headlines ‘The New Life of Brian’ event live on Sky Sports HD1 from 8pm on Saturday night, from the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.

    Rose became the proud owner of the coveted belt when he beat Sam Webb in the same venue in December, and when he steps up to World level to face Alcine for the vacant WBO Inter-Continental light middleweight belt on Saturday, he’ll have the belt in the ring with him as well as the motif on his shorts and gown.     Tickets officially went on sale yesterday for the highly anticipated middleweight championship showdown between defending WBA and IBO champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (26-0, 23KO’s) and Ireland’s top-rated former world title challenger Matthew “Mack The Knife” Macklin (29-4, 20KO’s).

    Golovkin and Macklin will meet on June 29th at the MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. The world title bout will be part of a live HBO Boxing After Dark triple-header, with the first televised bout beginning at 9:45 PM ET/PT. (more…)
