    This coming Saturday, one of the UK’s top amateur stars – European Silver and Commonwealth Boxing Championship Gold medallist, Iain Weaver, makes his long awaited professional debut at York Hall in London.

    Back in July last year Iain was on the verge of hitting the big time, pro boxing wise. Promoter Eddie Hearn had convinced him to sign with his Matchroom Sport concern with the promise of debuting on his September Alexandra Palace mega event, headlined by Darren Barker’s return. (more…)

  • Olympic Gold Medallist Campbell Signs With Matchroom

    Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Sport are delighted to announce that Luke Campbell MBE has signed a promotional deal with the company.

    The Olympic Gold medallist will be officially unveiled at a press conference in central London today, where the plans for his debut will be revealed.

    Campbell and Hearn will also hold a public press conference in the 25 year old’s hometown of Hull at 2pm on Wednesday in the City Hall.

    George Groves will face Noe Gonzalez Alcoba on May 25 at the O2 Arena, as part of the Carl Froch vs. Mikkel Kessler bill live on Sky Sports Box Office.

    Super middleweight star Groves is hunting a World title fight later in the year and will keep preparations going with a 12 round clash against the hard-hitting Uruguayan who has 22 KO wins from 32 fights and is hunting a second World title fight of his own having challenged Felix Sturm and Adonis Stevenson for major belts.     Carl Froch believes he is in the shape of his life as the countdown to his blockbuster rematch with Mikkel Kessler draws closer. The Matchroom Sport promoted Fight-night titled ‘Warriors’ Call’ is at the O2 in London live on Sky Sports Box Office on May 25th.

    There’s less than five weeks until Froch gets the chance to exact revenge on the Dane and tucked behind closed doors in Nottingham, Froch was in a bullish mood following a gruelling 15 round training session with trainer Robert McCracken MBE. (more…)

    Matty Askin believes he is on collision course with British cruiserweight champion Jon-Lewis Dickinson after he won the English title by beating China Clarke on Saturday night.

  • Open Senior Cadet Competition Concludes In Dublin

    The Open Senior Cadet Competition concluded at Dublin’s Nationals Stadium today. The IABA are using the tournament as part of their selection process for June’s European Junior Championships in Russia.

    Meantime, the Girls 1 to 6 Championships glove off at the National Stadium next Friday. Elsewhere this weekend, Eric Donovan’s Astana Arlans cruised into the 2012/13 World Series of Boxing final versus the Ukraine Otamans with a 5-0 rout of the Conrad Cummings’ Mexico Guerreros on Saturday.   • Goodwin vs. Fagan April 27 In Bethnal Green

    Back in December last year Chester’s Chris Goodwin was due to travel to Cork in Ireland to face ‘homeboy’ Oisin ‘Gael Force’ Fagan, for the vacant WBF Inter-Continental Lightweight crown. However fate stepped in and the fight never got to go ahead.

    Some four months later the pair finally go toe to toe for the WBF title, as they have been added to the upcoming Dave Murphy promoted ‘Thunder & Lightning’ event, which takes place at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London on Saturday 27th April 2013. (more…)

  • Roaming French Squad Heading For Cork On May 3

    Ireland will meet France over two legs at the Rochestown Park Hotel in Cork and the National Stadium in Dublin on May 3rd and 5th next.

    The Ireland (male) London 2012 squad of John Joe Nevin, Paddy Barnes, Michael Conlan, Darren O’Neill and Adam Nolan and current European champion Joe Ward have been called up to the Irish squad. (more…)
