  • Tellez defends his WBA regional belt against Gonzalez in a big event  – World Boxing Association

Tellez defends his WBA regional belt against Gonzalez in a big event  – World Boxing Association

Yoenis Tellez will defend his World Boxing Association Continental Latin American super welterweight crown against Johan Gonzalez this Saturday night at the Caribe Royale Hotel in Orlando, Florida.

The Cuban prospect will face the Venezuelan puncher in a very interesting fight that promises action in the important venue of the Florida city, which is gaining more and more prominence in the boxing world.

Tellez, 24 years old, will be in the second defense of his regional title. He won it last December with a knockout victory over Livan Romero and defended it against Joseph Jackson in a unanimous decision on April 25.

Gonzalez is 33 years old and has an extensive professional career, in addition to a great experience in the amateur arena, where he represented his country in several of the most important events in the world. He had a tough knockout loss in May against Jesus Ramos in Las Vegas, but came back in August to beat Ivan Herrera in his native Venezuela and now feels ready for another big challenge.

Tellez has 8 wins, is undefeated and has knocked out 6 opponents. Gonzalez has 35 wins, 3 losses and 34 knockouts.

  • Beterbiev becomes undisputed champion with big win at Riyadh Season – World Boxing Association

Beterbiev becomes undisputed champion with big win at Riyadh Season – World Boxing Association

Artur Beterbiev became undisputed champion after his unanimous decision win over Dmitry Bivol this weekend. The Riyadh Season event had one of the best fights boxing has to offer as the main event and the two fighters put on a great fight that will be remembered for years to come.

Beterbiev took cards of 116-112, 115-113 and 114-114 to get the majority decision in a very tough fight, which marked his first time fighting 12 rounds.

The start was especially difficult for the new WBA champion, as he found a Bivol who was moving very well in the ring and connecting many combinations, as well as entering the exchange successfully on many occasions.

However, Beterbiev kept going forward and pressing to win several rounds in the middle part of the fight and the key for him was especially at the end, when he lived his best moment and could sometimes overwhelm the humanity of his opponent.

It was a fairly close fight in which Beterbiev took the judges’ decision and proved that he can go to the limit against an elite boxer. He now has 21 wins, 20 of them knockouts, while Bivol left his record at 23 wins and 1 loss.

  • Adams takes on Veron in big showdown  – World Boxing Association

Adams takes on Veron in big showdown  – World Boxing Association

Brandon Adams and Francisco Veron will star in Friday night’s headline fight in Atlanta for the World Boxing Association (WBA) Continental North America middleweight title.

Adams and Veron will be the night’s featured fight for the pioneering body’s regional belt, in an event that has plenty of promise due to the good fights on its undercard.

The 35-year-old American is coming off three straight wins and has a wealth of experience having faced the likes of Jermall Charlo, Shane Mosley Jr. and Serhii Bohachuk.

Veron is a talented 25-year-old Argentinian fighter who will be going into one of the most important fights of his career. His good experience in the amateur arena has helped him adapt to the professional ranks and he is undefeated so far, so he wants to keep that streak going and make a splash.

Adams has 24 wins, 3 losses and 16 knockouts, while Veron has 14 wins, no losses, 1 draw and 10 knockouts.

  • OPENING NIGHT LOOMING FOR BIG BOMB JOHN

OPENING NIGHT LOOMING FOR BIG BOMB JOHN

THE QUEENSBERRY NEWCOMER John Isaacs is literally counting down the days until he gets to make his professional debut at York Hall on Friday September 6.

The next Bethnal Green bash – headlined by Sam Noakes defending his European lightweight title against mandatory challenger Gianluca Ceglia – will be the scene of another two young talents announcing themselves in the pro ranks, the other being Keano White from Lowestoft.

In the case of Isaacs, just 19, his band of followers who have been snapping up tickets in droves, will venture to the Old Ford Road from the West Country, namely Swindon. Isaacs himself will be heading in from further South because his preparations are being carried out under the expert eye of leading trainer Wayne Batten down in Southampton.

The welterweight, who could well drop lower in the fullness of time, signed on the dotted line to become a Frank Warren fighter earlier this year and now his time to shine is looming large.

“I really can’t wait,” said Isaacs, who was last in the ring some 11 months ago when he was victorious in the Senior Championships. “I have been training all year really, taking each step preparing for the day to come and hopefully a beautiful display of what I can do on the night.

“Mentally it puts me in a really strong place,” he reasoned on his link up with the Hall of Fame promoter. “I always wanted to do that, be that and say that I am a Frank Warren fighter. Training with who I am training with, working with who I am working with and doing what I am doing in the gym, I feel brilliant.

“I think Frank is a very brilliant man and very, very clever. A gentleman to speak to and I really enjoyed his company. The conversation we had I couldn’t have put any better if I had made it up myself.”

Isaacs, who views himself as a bit of a banger and is giving consideration to the stage name of ‘Big Bomb’, enjoyed success across his amateur tenure, but his level of experience gathered was blighted by the Covid period.

“I had 19 amateurs and won 17, winning three championships and was semi-finalist in the Haringey International Box Cup.

“There were a few stoppages in there and hopefully I can bring that through to the pros as well. Everyone loves a knockout streak so hopefully I can deliver on that.

“I am very strong, I like to think and have always been a bit of a puncher. I am a very aggressive boxer, entertaining and hopefully I will keep everyone excited and wanting to see more.

“I’ve got two busloads coming down from Swindon and a lot of people have sorted out hotels. I am so looking forward to it.”
