    Teenage sensation Patrick “Tiger” Mendy broke all Prizefighter records on his way to winning the super middleweight title at York Hall, Bethnal Green on Wednesday night.

    The nineteen-year old from Maidenhead entered the tournament as the youngest ever boxer to fight in the competition an wasted little time in making further history after he stopped Dudley’s Sam Horton after just one minute and 26 seconds into their fight – the quickest win in the competition’s 13 nights to date.   • Matchroom Boxing: Tony Salam Wins Vote To Join Prizefighter

    Tony ‘Sugar’ Salam has made history by becoming the first boxer to be voted into a Prizefighter event.

    Londoner Salam, 26, was victorious in the public vote and will now be competing in Prizefighter Super-Middleweights at the York Hall in Bethnal Green, London, on Wednesday, June 30.

    “This is why the United Kingdom is the one of the greatest countries on the planet,” said a delighted Salam. “I had everybody from every race and place voting for me. (more…)

  • Ringside Boxing Report: Matthew Macklin vs. Amin Asikainen

    On Friday night at the Velodrome in Manchester, England, Hatton Promotions hosted their first televised fight-night. Billed as ‘Euro Glory’, the fight-card was headlined by the European title clash between Matthew Macklin and Amin Asikainen.

    It was a very ‘stiff’ Asikainen that came out to face Macklin. Macklin looks focussed – switching between head and body shots – before landing a huge left hook which lands bang-on the face of the Finnish man and he falls back heavily on the canvas in the first round.

    Struggling to get up for the count – Asikainen looks unsteady but continues with the fight. Looking dazed – he tries to get away from Macklin but the Brummie goes after him! Seconds later, Asikainen is almost bundled over and it’s a no-knockdown. (more…)

  • Boxing Result: Macklin Stops Asikainen For European Title

    British middleweight champion Matthew Macklin increased the hardware in his trophy cabinet by winning the European title last night at the Velodrome in Manchester, England.

    The Birmingham based slugger went right to work in the first round, swapping punches with former titlist Amin Asikainen.

    The Finn was soon down from a full-blooded Macklin left hook but beat the count to continue. It wasn’t long however, before Macklin slammed home a right that decked Asikainen again.

    Showing great courage, Asikainen beat the count again but was judged in no condition to continue the bout at 2:34 of the first round.

    Matthew Macklin gains the European middleweight title and improves to 25-2 (18), winning his eighth straight contest. (more…)

    On Sunday afternoon, at the ‘packed’ Heritage Hotel in Derby, England – Clifton Mitchell of Mitchell Promotions hosted a fight card which would see some exciting action from both male and female boxers.

    First up, local woman Suzanne Hemsley faced Kristine ‘Krissy’ Shergold of Paignton, Devon, in a six round lightweight contest.

    ‘Bigger’ Shergold gave Hemsley a tough time from the start, landing a notable big left punch at the end of round two. Hemsley picked-up in round three to throw some solid right uppercuts, but doesn’t look happy with herself as she sits in the corner at the end of the round. (more…)
