  • Matchroom Boxing: Dilks Pledges Prizefighter Comeback

    Carl Dilks says he will banish the memory of his cruel semi-final defeat in his last Prizefighter outing when he lines-up in the Super-Middleweights II in Liverpool’s Olympia on March 23.

    Dilks defeated Bob Ajisafe in the quarter-finals of the Light-Heavyweights event in February 2009 and faced Darren Stubbs in the semi-finals. The Liverpool fighter was announced the winner of the bout only for the result to be reversed while he was backstage after a mix-up with the scorecards. (more…)

    Robin Reid came through his first fight in over three years on Saturday night to continue his preparation for Prizefighter Super-Middleweights II at Liverpool’s Olympia on Wednesday 23 March.

    The 40 year-old claimed a points decision against Jamie Ambler at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton, with the ‘Grim Reaper’ tasting action for the first time since losing a British title fight against Carl Froch in November 2007. (more…)

    The fighters in the line-up for Prizefighter Light-Heavyweights II show at Olympia in London on January 29 were put through their paces by Sky Sports – and each admitted their desire to fight for a major title after lifting the trophy.

    The eight boxers headed to Sky’s studios in London on Wednesday (January 12) to start the promotional campaign ahead of the 16th edition of Matchroom Sport’s eight-man, one-night tournaments – donning their special 3D glasses as the show becomes Sky Sports’ second boxing event to be broadcast in 3D.     Hayemaker Boxing put on a great ‘all-action’ bill last night at the smart Echo Arena in Liverpool, England.

    Billed as ‘Mersey Beatdown’ – the fight night was headlined by the vacant British Super Middleweight title clash between Liverpudlians Tony Quigley and Tony Dodson.

    Dodson was scheduled to fight Brian Magee, who had to pull out with a back injury although he was ringside for the fight.

    Quigley entered the ring to the sounds of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ as the Liverpool fans stood with arms held high – swaying and singing to the song made famous by Liverpool’s own Gerry and the Pacemaker’. (more…)

    Liverpool’s Tony Quigley has been handed a dream opportunity to win the British Super Middleweight title, following Brian Magee’s withdrawal from a scheduled defence against Tony Dodson on March 28.

    Belfast’s Magee was forced to cancel the defence of his belt due to a back injury suffered in training.

    However, Magee’s misfortune has now worked in Quigley’s favour, as he steps in to fill the void against fellow Liverpudlian Dodson at the Echo Arena in Liverpool. (more…)
