    Default Digestive system!!

Hi i do alot of road work(jogging).I've been doing it for most of me life(27yrs)and i was wondering how long should i wait for me digestion to take of my food before i go running for a 4-6miler?I usually wait till 3hours after i've eaten a medium meal but im not too sure if thats long enough.Mind you i have been out running only about two hours before!Does anyone know how long it take to digest a medium meal e.g 3-4Scrambell Eggs. Thanks!

If you walk around a bit right after you eat, your food digests a bit quicker.

What time of day do you run?

3-4 scramble eggs is all protein+fat and NO carbs!! I was always lead to believe that heavy on carbs and light on the protein about 1-2 hours before heavy cardio activity was the best.

Me self, I always run early-mid mornings and have some whole grain bread, a banana, and some caffeine pills before hand. Then after I would have a protein shake, follow up an hour or so later with a balanced solid meal lunch.

I think complex carbs and a bit of "healthy" sugar (via fruits) is a good bet before cardio. Much quicker to digest than a heavy protein meal and provides more accessible energy in the short term.

I usually run before I eat, that way I'm drawing from the bodies stored fat and burning it up.

I would assume three hours afterward is plenty though.

I found that helpful as well,by jogging on a empty stomach!!I've done that before when i was on a crash diet(about 18months ago)but im now on a mission to build up a bit of muscle"like me good old days!".Im having more "DIG" in me punches i feel by going back to me Dumbells! But im trying to to keep the puppy fat off me hips.

I agree that a 3hours rest break after a medium lunch is fine by going by the way i feel when i do go and do a 4-6 road-work session! Thanks mate!

Has anyone got any scientific evidence on the digestive break down of food?i would totally appreciate the feedback on the matter!

Great advice mate!I go jogging between 6-8pm after work in mid week, and maybe 4-5pm during the weekend.I go jogging at about 4times a week. Some day i'll stay in 3rd grear, and once or twice i'll push it a bit hard by running up a big flight of concreat steps(atout 60steps in total) 2 or 3 times in the middle of me jog!!!!!!Good old school work out! Thanks again.I'll try that sometime soon!

I'm hoping that two long runs a week, two sprint sessions and my boxing will help me to get back ripped in under two months; the liklihood?

I reckon you could get to optimal in that time period seeing as your probably in pretty reasonable shape right now.

I'm actually in very good shape, I'm very slim, but still with a bit of body fat and I'm really fit.

I can do Five miles in jig time and I feel that I'm sparring well.

Thanks for the encouragement Yvonne, I'm nervous about this one, so I'm investing a lot of work in the build up.
