Was he slurring here? I don't think so. Certainly no more than your average American who cannot even produce sentences or define the word liberal or walk. We have a few here and they even slur in their text. As for Fat Dan, that is my issue, not someone like Toney.
Toney actually fights, so of course I like the man. As for your other derogatory stuff about Toney, let's see first. You are not a member, so go away. We don't like you here, Tito. Go away to your place and join in the alliance when you see sense.
This is an older mans club. We don't want stopped fighters like Cotto. We are hardcore, we are JFAT, no stoppages here. Bugger off with that take a knee nonsense. We don't like it. Go away.
Always good to get a reaction out of you, miles. ;D
And no... I'm definitely not JFAT or anything resembling it. If anything, I'm fascinated with the obsession over a former middleweight, who ate everything in sight on his way to becoming a clownish heavyweight. IMO, he's a disgrace to boxing as a sport. If he truly likes MMA, he should just jump the fence (well... maybe walk around it ;D ) and stay there. And yes, he slurs... not that he has anything useful to say.
When I said you were a skinny, proper, white Englishman... I forgot to mention that you are in the academic field. And from your posting history, it's obvious that you like all things intellectual. So even more puzzling then, is your fascination with a boxer who can barely utter his own name. Boxers used to be categorized as dumb, back in the day. But nowadays you have some very well educated and articulate boxers, who can speak in perfectly enunciated sentences.
It's kinda like Fay Wray's fascination with King Kong.

Watching Toney-McCallum right now and im almost choking up.. How can somebody be this graceful inside the ring?
I dont give a fuck what anybody says. Toney is a master boxer on a godly level and only a very few fighters in history can match his best..
It makes me laugh hysterically whenever someone puts Hopkins over Toney.. Fuckin seriously? lol
Toney is truly a throwback fighter from the 40s and the 50s..
" Hopkins isn't old school, he's an old foo "

That was Toney at his peak, now he is a sad story. BTW I thought Mike McCallum beat him.
Re: James Toney returns! JFAT alliance reunion thread.
I wish James could be satisfied by teaching what he was taught! The moves he performs and the way he "thinks" in the ring are all but lost! The new trainers are from the 80s & 90s amatuer programs and thats a totally diffferent approach to boxing. Were losing the solid punchers and in their place its light hitting on the move counter guys that just don't bring any excitment. The kids from the old "block countries" are punching hard and sitting down but their work rate is very bad! The Russian Rocky had Timmy beat but he couldn't catch up enough times and when he did he couldn't pull off enough shots to finish Tim. Tim is a great conditioned athlete and thats what saved him along with his heart! Rusian needs more conditioning and he must improve his tempo, he knew how to cut the ring and he knows his punches but he's not mentally prepared to step up his training to achieve the high work rate that he needs. In the old days the LoMatta had their opponents come to then more often than the opponents do today. Runners back than could never make it to the semi's or main events if they weren't able or willing to bring some of the fight to their opponents. In the days were the "live gate" was all the reciepts there was NO " counter guys" around. If you want to fight to earn then you came to fight! Or get booed out of the ring.
Toney doesn't belong fighting but what else can he do? He has no other skills, if he could convey what he knows to young fighters he should be worth gold in a gym but can he teach? Will it satisfy him? Probably not, he's going out on his sheild its all he knows! Ray
Re: James Toney returns! JFAT alliance reunion thread.
The Toney return doesn't seem to be shaking the earth, but I do see why. I'm not all that deluded. I know he is very old, I know he hasn't beaten a top fighter in half a decade, but I think he can get the win here. His opponents record isn't all that hot and most of the opposition have heavy loss records. I guess it depends on how hard Toney has trained and if he even cares anymore.
The weight typically answers half the questions.
Re: James Toney returns! JFAT alliance reunion thread.
thats what I like about Miles. H always comes back to basics and that is he posts things about boxing as a true aficionado. Don't bother him when he posts about US-UK Hegemony. (although he is right about everything he says---amazing really a British guy who sees the deal for what it truly is--and is not hiding behind the Whore-Hound of Windsor and all her Enttrapments). AS I am also amazing as a Yank for seeing America as a Double-Speaking Double-Standard Demon of Destruction---a Mojito, a Cuban Sandwu\ich, a Midnight Express. Watch out, it's Sonny Liston the North Carolina Express.

I am all for people not paying taxes as a political stand and clearly Toney is doing just that. In all seriousness, for me it is all about Toney's style and history. Just a very nice style to watch and so many great fights on that resume.
It was just a shame that the ego finally became too much and he really did lose control and is thus where he is now as a travelling fighter and who really should be a retired HW champ at this stage.
Toney has to make money and nobody will go near him. Adamek should really have happened and I am quite angry that it didn't. If Toney lost then his career was done for good, but instead we get middling fights like this and more time wasted. Let the man have a shot at someone and see if he can back it up.
The last 5 years has been a bit of a farce, but no more than that of David Haye who gets a fight with anyone when the yearly fight itch comes around. Toney was on to fight Thompson, he was calling out Fury, Adamek, the Klits, Haye. Nothing ever happens except more middling about. He busts up Rahman and Rahman gets his shot, Toney never gets a mention. Peter has fought both Klits and Toney beat Peter (don't give me that scorecard bollocks!). Nothing.
It is a whole crock of shit. People bitch about James Toney, but the man is great. Give me a million Toney's over your Haye's and Fury's of this world and he would still beat both with both hands tied behind his back.
Re: James Toney returns! JFAT alliance reunion thread.
Pepper Roach says that Toney used to rough up the bitchko sisters in sparring and pat their asses after which explains why they always duck him..
Fuck the bitchsko sisters. They are boring.
Re: James Toney returns! JFAT alliance reunion thread.
Are the Klitschko's still ducking Toney after his latest stellar performance against the incredible Lucas Browne?
Re: James Toney returns! JFAT alliance reunion thread.
I think Miles finally got off that empty train.

Here it is if anyone wants to watch it. I've watched a couple rounds and Toney can still slip by and large. He's just soooo fucking fat and noticeably much slower than he used to be, even at heavyweight. He loads up on the right hand counters, but misses and falls down frequently.
Re: James Toney returns! JFAT alliance reunion thread.
Toney was old and horrible and this version of Toney is only a slip and a slide above a club fighter now. He can slip a punch, but he is easily outworked and if you just stay away from him he is nullified. HOWEVER, this is not the Toney of several years ago. This is a Toney who has abused himself to a horrible degree and the sluggishness, inability to throw after 5 rounds, and loss of speed, is testament to a man in his 40's fighting once a year and who steadfastly refuses to get into any semblance of shape.
The Toney who just moved up to HW was awesome and beautiful to watch. He didn't tire, he got stronger. He could throw superb crisp combinations. His defence and attack were one and the same. He was awkward and very hard to hit cleanly. One really shouldn't be saying 'Oh miles, I told you so' when talking of the Klits. That Toney was an excellent athlete and would have done VERY well. Sam Peter 1 saw Toney fight him much better than Wlad did.
In boxing you always get revisionists saying 'But look at so and so in their final 3 fights, it shows they weren't good enough'. Just not true. James Toney was always as good as he said he was. He just got old, and failed to realise it. As a fan, you do much the same.
