Yup, ol man Johnson couldnt put a dent in Sheika and lost right before Joe battered him and stopped him in the 5th;D
That hardly sounds like a dangerous opponent, only if you have a glass jaw like Jones though
Bernard Hopkins was a legend before Calzaghe and more than likely the higher rated fighter p4p and therefore Joe comes to the US and Bernard doesn't go to HooliganLand.
I'm being fair RJJ and Hopkins didn't take MANY chances but they did take some chances...RJJ went up to heavyweight, fought Tarver after being at heavyweight...B-Hop fought Jermain Taylor twice when he didn't really have to, he fought Winky Wright and Tarver and revived his career at 175.
Calzaghe has only JUST come to America and he fought Peter Manfredo within his last 5 fights for fucks sake! Prime my ass....that is fucking WEAK
[QUOTE=Markusdarkus;562961][quote=tysonbruno;562960]I laugh at Calzaghe fans - never in defeat has someone's star risen like Kessler's. It's quite ridiculous really.
Kessler did nothing in his fight with Joe. Sure got lucky with about 3 shots in the 4th round, but other than that he was dreadful. Considering the excitement and build up surrounding the event i have never been so disappointed in my life.
Against the completely unheralded Sartison, he nearly got his head caved in during the opening round. So much for the Big Bear preparation.
Every time Kessler throws that left jab he draws it back low. He will get knocked out by a puncher when he finally decides to fight one, because so far he hasn't.
Now Hopkins, that was TV gold. Watching Joe getting bounced off the canvas and lead around the ring by the old master was quite amusing. The old fella gave him a split loss in my eyes. Even in defeat, at his age he proved he was the bigger man.
So in closing, Calzaghe has ducked Geln Johnson a bunch of times, has been bounced off the canvas three times (once by a guy ranked 60th in Salem) has held the least prestigious belt in the division, barely travelled for over a decade, has two questionable wins over Reid and Hopkins, is fighting a washed-up (his own words) Roy Jones and has 7 points wins from his last 8.... and i did i mention he is dull to watch and even duller to listen too ?
Im completly with the author on this topic.
And surprise surprise... the owner of the Ring magazine and compliler of the Ring ratings... is also gonna be his promoter too. Mmmmmmmm.
Diddums
You have alot on your plate;D
Am I the only person who read this behemoth or a post and asked "where's the beef?"
How did such a shitty, hollow and weightless post spawn so many pages of meaningful debate?
I already PM'd the guy and told him his shit read like a book report written by a handicapped 10 year old.
Not really arsed about the topic at all I just expect more weight behind a statement in saddo's, is this place on the slide or what?
Manfredo was a HBO opponent they wanted the fight so it got signed.
As for Calzaghe has only JUST come to America its crap why does he have to go there to prove himself? he is the champ he is now the marquee fighter and a ring is a ring. As for Manfredo yer he was a bum but a mainstream name Kelly Pavlik just fought Lockett. And as for this last five fights rubbish i`ll remind you that the former P4P king Floyd Mayweather fought Sharmba Mitchell and Carlos Baldomir in his last 5 fights. Why because there were a means to an end.
45-0 And what??? come on fill me in tell me what i'm missing after years of watching i still think he is CRAP!!
In 45 fights these are the best he has fought.
Chris Eubank:
Who came in at short notice had to lose 11lbs in 7 days Eubanks was past his best but still gave Calzaghe a good fight one of his toughest in fact but this did show us what Calzaghe was made of.
Robin Reid:
Who in my eyes beat him alot of people thought so as well he should have at least got a rematch.
Omar Sheika:
Lets have it right this was a guy who got beat by Tony Booth for god sake.
Richie Woodhall:
A good fighter won a WBC world title at super middle but he nearly got beat by Glenn Catley many thought he did get beat. Then he got beat by Markus Beyer and lost his world title.Woodhall was a good fighter but just good not outstanding.
Charles Brewer:
This guy lost twice to Sven Ottke he had 8 losses before he got to Calzaghe and Calzaghe had some rough times in this fight and he should have KO'd Brewer in my opinion for it to be a impressive win.
Byron Mitchell:
A fairly good puncher won a world title vs Frankie Liles TKO11 but then went on in his first defence and drew with Bruno girard then lost it in his 2nd defence in a rematch vs Gerard. In his fight before Calzaghe lost vs Sven Ottke so it was a safe bet for Calzaghe to win.Calzaghe got dropped heavy but came back to KO mitchell a good win.
Jeff Lacy:
IBF Super Middleweight champ but well overrated and overhyped. He had good power but relied on it he had struggled vs Omar Sheika so more reason for Calzaghe to fight him.Since his loss to Calzaghe Lacy has still failed to impress vs Tsypko and Manfredo so proves to a certain degree he was overhyped.
Mikkel Kessler:
39-0 a good solid fighter number 2 in the world WBC/WBA world champ.A good competetive fight hat off to Calzaghe for this win.
Bernard Hopkins:
43 year old former middleweight champ ranked number 1 at light heavy i think Hopkins won as do many others .
I think calzaghe is overrated slightly i think people get caught up in the he's made 22 world title defences.yes he made 22 defences but went alot of easy routes to do it so could he beat a peak Hopkins or Jones the answer is NO!;);D
Just read Calzaghe punked out again and postponed the Jones fight. I wouldn't be surprised if he pulled out completely like he did against Glen Johnson
Well said. I personally think he is the most overrated fighter in recent memory. His 4 biggest fights where against Eubanks, Lacy, Kessler, and Hopkins. Eubanks was past his prime and still nearly beat Joe. Lacy...an overrated, one dimensional fighter. Kessler...solid fighter, but FAR from being a great fighter...Joe won a competitive fight. Hopkin's...i had the 43 year old Hopkins AT THE VERY LEAST fighting to a draw. So basically the 2 best fighter he has ever faced where a past prime Eubanks and a past prime Hopkins...2 fights and performances that hardly indicate greatness. And as far as his "flashy", pitter patter punching style...that doesn't impress me either. And this has nothing to do with some American bias. Guys like Eubanks, Benn, Lewis, etc. are 10 times the fighters that Calzaghe is.
Eubank is one of my favourites but he didnt came anywhere near to beating Joe, he got dropped in the first and lost nearly every round.
yes Chris had alot of weight to lose but thats his fault for taking the fight.
Sheika was coming off a win over Johnson, who Joe was supposed to have avoided, Sheika has fought a few good fighters and noone has treated him like Joe did
Eubank came in at short notice? this is a myth as Eubank was already fighting on that date, Collins ducked Calzaghe so Eubanks stepped in at 11days notice.
Chris Eubank had already been in camp for 8wks before that and on his lifestory dvd states it was his "last good camp"
You can literally break down ANY fighter's record like that. People do it all the time. Hindsight is one thing, sometimes we go a bit overboard with it. Lacy may have been overrated, Calzaghe was still the underdog in that one.

Cmon Joe!!!
Pick on someone your own age!!
;D
I prefer these pics
Yeah but those are old nws because my pic has the last laugh because it happened last and whats even worse is that Hopkins threw him self on the floor like a whining kid being told off by his dad and thats basicly what happened, Hopkins was looking for mercy all over the place;D;D;D;D
Ha ha I win
To bring Mayweather into this is dumb... yo just said Calzaghe throws arm punches... you think Floyd wont stand toe to toe with an armpuncher:confused: In your fantasy matchup Floyd on paper would have the speed, power and accuracy advantage along with the quickness and light years ahead on defense... Not to mention Floyds straight right hand would land time after time, while Floyd sits in the pocket ducking and rolling Calzaghes punches.. Floyd would shiit all over him
Cal is a good fighter. But he could of been great
Calzaghe does throw alot of arm punches but why dyou think people havent walked through them before?
They are constantly getting tagged, Floyd would be rolling around waiting for a counter but Joe dont stop, which is what I was getting at, also if Joe is such a week puncher, how come he made Bernard crawl around on all fours bitching to the ref and millions of viewers like a little sissy looking for a way out?
Because Bernard is 44 and couldnt keep a 12 round pace with John Ruiz, Hopkins compubox punch out put is amoungst the lowest, you realize that right? So Nard OVEREMBELISHED a beltline shot to slower an already turtle paced fight... Cmon Ross I like Joe like the next guy, but Joe dosent like in rough in there and isint dazzling on the inside now is he? Dosent do well with a little duffing up on the inside does he? Exactly!!! Floyd would rough him up make it messy on the inside, duck and roll and then deep in the fight when Joe is frustrated Mayweather would drown him in the deep waters... Matter of Fact Joe just squeaked out a win over as guy that proved he cant keep pace for 4 years now, if Nard was a few years younger and fresher Joe was getting the 0 period!!! So Mayweather who is as well rounded and technically sound as theres been a fighter in the last 50 years would keep pace and just out class Calzaghe on every front in theis fight..
Congrats for winding me up enough to bite on this ridiculous matchup:biteit: ;D
Hopkins was never hurt by that shot he new it was a close fight so he tried to get Calzaghe deducted points. You Carnt tell me if Hopkins was winning easy or had Calzaghe hurt and he got hit with the say shot he would of reacted like that cause there is no way he would of.
Mayweather is one of the fittest fighters ever i remember Calzaghe been fucked in last 3 rounds vs Kessler he said it himself after the fight.
Whilst I agree that Mayweather is indeed one of the fittest fighters ever to enter a ring, I have to point out that Floyd intelligently monitors his punch output. Some rounds he will punch as little as possible, so it is very seldom that he is ever fatigued.
Calzaghe on the other hand is a volume puncher - a real worker. He throws as many shots as is possible, so obviously he will be fatigued. When a fighter enters with the mindset that he is going to throw as much as he is able he is going to use all of his fuel regardless of how much he has, where as Floyd enters and only uses what he needs.
But he still pushed himself till the very end producing another high punch output at his advanced age. Floyd has never been pushed or punched as much as Joe would.
Floyd ran from slow easy to punch Baldomir, hed have fits with Joe bombarding him every second, Joe wouldnt give him time to roll around.
Lets see if Floyd is still unbeaten or even fighting top level ring belt holders when hes 36, I very much doubt it;D;)
Calzaghe beats Lacy,Kessler and Hopkins and everyone thinks he is a god this is CRAZY!!
Yeah in 5 years time, if Floyd has the balls to fight Cotto or Margarito I dont see him still being unbeaten or even on the top of his game like the ageless Calzaghe;D
Floyd has done well to manage and avoid some of the better fighters like Tszyu, Cotto he even turned down good money to fight Margarito when he was quite willing to go in with the very little known Baldomir:confused:
Joe has wiped his division clean, Floyd cant say that in any division, never mind, he might one day hold 2 ring belts simultaniously if he tries a bit harder ;D
Hes got time bless im;D
