you'd have to ask team dmitry. neither of us know what was in the original contract. there was talk of a rematch clause. canelo has insisted he wants the rematch at one seventy five, canelo said same terms. dmitry declined so canelo has moved on
You cannot conclude Bivol ducked Canelo from that. Offering the rematch on the same conditions when Bivol took less and subsequently losing to Bivol surely is not being serious about the rematch.
Bivol also said he would go down in weight to accommodate Canelo.
That is not ducking.
Bivol's not the one with something to prove. He whupped Canelo at 175, and now wants to show he can do it at 168. That's not ducking.
canelo wanted the chance to prove he can beat dmitry at one seventy five. canelo gets no credit if the rematch takes place at super middle. dmitry was supposedly offered the same terms as the first fight, which is said to be a career high payday for dmitry & where he won the first fight. dmitry turned down the offer
And why do you think Dmitry turned down the offer?
(This oughta be good).
:thinking2:
you'd have to ask team dmitry why they turned down the same terms as the first fight

Re: WTF is stopping Canelo from fighting Benavidez?
I guess Jack 'ducked 'Canelo too ;D. More likely just calling him out on his obvious bullshat with the rehydration clause and trying to drain the man 20 lbs apparently. The fact a man comprehensively defeated is expecting the same terms of a first fight...at a same weight where he and fans already made countless excuses for losing...is nothing but a public saving face and pr exercise. Zero serious intent from Canelo.

I believe that's rhetorical. Yeh they should but I believe if it's mutual it might work. But in the name of safety if a guy wants to chase belts sac up and fight at the proper weight. No idea what was offered for 168, I was talking 175 where you said the terms were the same. No idea what excuses you personally made. Yep Canelo is eyeing the exit, been saying that for a bit now.

i don't mind catchweights but not when belts are on the line. if there's a catchweight then there should be no rehydration clause for either guy. they make the weight then they're good. canelo stated same terms. i doubt team dmitry made their own offer, just demanded one sixty eight & probably more money & it backfired on them. line up anthony yarde. i think one guy getting left out of the farewell tour talk is jaime

I'm a bigger fan of Badou Jack NOW than I was before.
Are you KIDDING ME??
And Canelo groupies are STILL defending the Ducking King of all time?? :LOLATYOU:
OMG... this is beyond embarrassing.
Badou Jack HIMSELF exposes Canelo for trying to drain him to 20 POUNDS BELOW THE CRUISER LIMIT..... and STILL fight for the trinket!!!
You just can't make this shet up. :vd:
Here's the thing.
There's nothing new here.
Us Canelo "haters" have ALWAYS known how Canelo works.
Casuals and groupies have always fallen for the bait, and cherish the ground Ginger walks on.
But finally a fellow boxer... ONE APPROACHED BY CANELO FOR HIS TITLE... has thrown Ginger under the bus.
It don't get any better than that.
I may even start my own Badou Jack Fan Club. :D

Re: WTF is stopping Canelo from fighting Benavidez?
Negotiations in boxing can be a complicated dance, and sometimes fighters have different priorities or strategic plans. While Benavidez is offering big money, there could be other factors at play behind the scenes. Canelo's team might have their reasons for pursuing different opponents like Berlanga or focusing on specific weight classes.
-
Re: WTF is stopping Canelo from fighting Benavidez?
You're a new member, so first... welcome to the forum. :)
Yes... "Canelo's team might have their reasons..." Absolutely.
While we can only speculate, those of us who have followed Canelo's career from the beginning have a pretty good idea what those reasons are. ;) ;)

Buh buh buh he's daring to be great :kar:. Lots of talk on Charlo now and how "haters" are hypocrites for calling in some BS if that's his direction in Sept. What gets dismissed is the fact that when it was on the front burner it was at 160 before Canelo bounced. And Charlo had not sat cold on the bench for over two years. And Charlo actually having a 168 move up prior. Almost sounds like a tale of Goldilocks :-X, Too hot, too cold...but 168 sweep of the division would be juuust right. Fat chance.

Re: WTF is stopping Canelo from fighting Benavidez?
Haha, I hear you! I'm not sure why Canelo isn't taking on Benavidez, but I'm sure it's nothing he can't handle. Maybe he's just taking it one step at a time. Who knows. At the end of the day, he’s got this. #HandsInTheAir

I assume this will be on DAZN and Canelo is still with Eddie. A fight with Charlo would be a cracker a few years ago.

Re: WTF is stopping Canelo from fighting Benavidez?
Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez has signed a promotional deal with Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) and will return to the ring in September.
The multiple weight world champion was signed to Eddie Hearn's Matchroom, but has opted for a change in promoters.
Alvarez comfortably beat Briton John Ryder in May and is being lined up to face WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo next.
The 32-year-old Mexican announced the news on his social media.
American fighter Charlo has not fought since June 2021, but is undefeated in 32 fights with 22 of those coming by knockout.
PBC is an American promotion that also promotes the likes of welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr and Gervonta Davis.
Alvarez last fought at middleweight in 2018 when he beat Gennady Golovkin to become the unified champion.
He currently has 59 wins, two losses and two draws on his record.

Dazn isn't a real player in 'Murica, GBP is imploding and is lead by a basehead and ESPN just doesn't have the talent for Canelo.
Canelo ? This white boy has some BALLS !! Charlo is the real bogeyman.
I don't get the Benvadez thing.
Unless he has great front skills and has as good of a "I'm coming to get ya" style as a Roberto Duran or a prime Mike Tyson then you're not beating Canelo with that slow one paced come forward style. Look at the fighters who gave Canelo the most problems ? Bivol and Money. What do they do ? They move. They fight at distance. They make the fight, a fight of athletism just as much as a fight. They have fast hands. Punch and get out. Benavidez does not of that.
Benny's best accomplishment is going the distance with a guy Canelo just knocked out the year before .....whole damn resume full of bums but some ppl's goofy ass think he's the sh*t.
Stop with all your jibber-jabbing @TitoFan
Canelo is the cash cow and he's doing cash cow shyte.
Charlo is the one guy I thought Canelo would NEVER fight. Well guess what I'm happy to say I was wrong. And see this is what I mean when I say if the fighters want the fight they make it happen.
He has a three fight deal now.
- September 2023: Charlo
- May 2024: Benavidez
- September 2024: Spence at 164 if (and it's a BIG "if") he beats Crawford
-
Re: WTF is stopping Canelo from fighting Benavidez?
I guess this means no berlanga for Alvarez, dazn were advertising him quite a lot last time i was watching, Andrade misses out too, Andrade has done an amazing job of not being able to fight bigger names, pretty impressive, although to be fair he was signed on to fight saunders wasn't he?.
Looks like alvarez has chosen the tougher super middleweight route here, with Charlo and benavidez or Tom Morello next year.. also there'll be no bivol rematch, which is probably good for Alvarez

Balls??
Damn... that's when I KNEW you'd lost the plot.
Charlo's the "real bogeyman" why... 'cause he's a "brother"? Gimme a break, dude. We all know how your boxing mind works. Hell... you put Monfils and Tsonga as 2 and 3 on your tennis GOAT list. :vd:
Regardless... I can't help you if you can't tell that Ginger has ducked Benavidez every which way but loose.
- Bivol wouldn't cave to his demands.
- Jack told him to go jump in a lake and hurry up and give the fans what they want and fight Benavidez already. :D
So who's next? Charlo.
Don't get me wrong. I'll be rooting so hard for Charlo, it'll seem like we're related or something.
But the guy hasn't fought in literally TWO FUKKING YEARS. That's a lifetime in boxing.
Also... (and I shouldn't have to be spelling these things out for you)... has it escaped your attention that Charlo has NEVER fought above 160??
Are you so desperate for Canelo to fight a "brother" that you overlook this very important fact??
This is a "Golovkin repeat", FOR FUKK'S SAKE!!
Did you forget how Canelo dragged the 40-year old GGG's ass to 168 to beat him also.
You see... this is what happens when objectivity gives way to fandom.

Re: WTF is stopping Canelo from fighting Benavidez?
I honestly cannot listen to Spence for Canelo after it takes years to make/yet to win the biggest fight of his entire career and keep a straight face ;D. It seemed to start immediately after Canelo getting him sone PBC, even prior with Spence speaking on it. Maybe I'm just too uptight for this new norm of guys arbitrarily bouncing around divisions while at the same time avoiding major fights in their very own reasonable and expected division. Yes, Spence is naturally bigger for 147...it's been mentioned for years now flirting with 154. But it gets ridiculous when the hypothetical meets the reality on the ground that we're all seeing before us. This 3 divisions to fit inside a year and a half. Silly stuff. We're not that desperate for BIG name fights. Plenty of work for Canelo yet to be done. Still. Take your Charlo from mothballs and do good work. But leave the welters and jr middles alone.

to be fair it is a three fight deal. from a business point of view they probably want to capitalize on their investments as much as possible. a fight with jermall probably sells well. then a david b fight should be big in may twenty four, leaving a third fight against maybe demetrius. everyone thinks september is going to be jermall but david b doesn't want the david m fight now, after his manager already said the fight was signed, so there is a slight possibility it could be david b in september

Good question. Some fighters balloon up in weight (see: Ricky Hatton), while others keep themselves in fighting shape and weight no matter how long they're out.
Whichever the case might be with Charlo, they'd better bring an industrial-sized vacuum cleaner for all the ring rust that night.

Re: WTF is stopping Canelo from fighting Benavidez?
Seems the outrage is growing...
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mor...nts%20to%20see.
"Juan Manuel Marquez believes Canelo should get stripped of the title"
"Many questions have been raised regarding Canelo's lack of interest in fighting David Benavidez; as for now, it looks like a mandatory title defense for him, yet he has been avoiding offers presented. Canelo may most likely end up fighting Jermall Charlo; next, he is expected to fight to him in September – it's not officially confirmed, but it appears to be a done deal.
The veteran Juan Manuel Marquez recently spoke about Canelo; he doesn't seem to be very pleased with the fact that Canelo is turning down a fight against David Benavidez and is instead fighting other opponents. He believes Canelo should be stripped of the title.
Recently on ProBox TV, Espanol, Juan Manuel Marquez spoke about Canelo's indecision to fight Benavidez, who, in his eyes, is a worthy title challenger for the belts in Canelo's possession. Marquez believes the respected authorities should snatch Canelo's belts since he's avoiding a title defense that the whole world wants to see.
"They have to ignore and strip the champion of the title if he does not want to make his mandatory defense, and it seems that it is the World Boxing Council that has to exercise the regulations," Marquez said as quoted by marca.com.
"We are clear, the regulations have to be carried out, of course we know that Benavidez is the official challenger and he has to fight Canelo Alvarez". Marquez continued: "He is the undisputed champion at 168 pounds, he has to make the mandatory defense, if Canelo doesn't want to fight Benavidez, he has to leave the title vacant".
Canelo was also interested in a rematch against Bivol, but due to failed negotiations, he had to look for new opponents. Jermal Charlo has been inactive for more than 2 years, and it will be interesting to see if he is actually next for Canelo. In the upcoming days, we could get an official announcement for Canelo's next fight."
That's not a hating boxing fan talking. That's a true Mexican great and warrior.
I've always liked JMM. :)

I think JMM limits his opinions to other Mexicans.
Although Mexico and my home of Puerto Rico have always had one of the best rivalries in boxing... and I always root for my home fighter... I've learned to admire (and be a fan of) Mexican warriors in the past. Warriors who exemplified what it is to fight ANYBODY, ANYWHERE, ANYTIME. Diva clauses be damned. If they lose a championship fight... so what. They come back stronger for the next fight and learn from their mistakes.
Canelo is none of that. I've ALWAYS criticized and disliked him for that... and it's heartening to see a fellow Mexican do it also.

That's a copout. And comparing JMM to Canelo is an insult to Marquez. They are nothing alike. JMM never did any diva rehydration clauses. Probably very few, if any, catchweights. He never purposely waited on fighters to get old to fight them. He never sought unfair weight advantages. He fought all comers. Any time, any place. He didn't have the judges in his back pocket like Ginger does. He never called himself the Face of Boxing. He let his fights do the talking. When he lost... so what? He went on to the next challenge. There are some that claim JMM ducked Naseem? Sure. Just like there is always someone who comes from the woodwork to claim X ducked Y, and that applies to just about any fighter. Was JMM known as a ducker? Hardly.
So to those who've insinuated I dislike Canelo because he's Mexican (not you)... they're being ignorant. JMM... Barrera...Finito Lopez... all these are among my favorite Mexican fighters of the past. But I don't like cheaters (Clenbuterol)... I don't like divas... I don't like "marinating" fights (GGG when Canelo could easily fight at 160, but chose to meet JCC Jr. at 170)... I don't like fanboyism... I don't like jumping entire weight divisions to pick off lame zebras (Ginger's specialty)... IN FACT... there's a lot of things on the list.
Even many MEXICANS don't like Ginger. They know he's nothing like the past warriors. He's a coddled cherry-picker.

Canelo is none of that. I've ALWAYS criticized and disliked him for that... and it's heartening to see a fellow Mexican do it also.
throughout every era, fighters will get criticized. there are some that claim juan ducked naseem & a career high payday when offered. end of the day juan, like canelo has fought against some of the best fighters of their time
That's a copout.
He's a coddled cherry-picker.
who's comparing the two? i said they have both fought against some of the best fighters of their time. juan didn't fight nazeem when the fight was offered to him & juan was hardly ever in the position to call the shots. popular fighters have always been given advantages throughout the sports history, it's nothing new. do i agree with it? no. does it happen? yes. you don't like divas, that's cool, in my opinion miguel cotto was one of the biggest divas of his time but i appreciate the good fights he gave, just like i appreciate the good fights canelo has given. there's a lot of things wrong with the sport of boxing. popular stars getting advantages is way down on my list

Of course you do. That is the single dumbest, fakest line of BS ever spoke on this site. Absolutely pathetic. You are such a fraud.
And to think in that other thread I almost told them to leave your fake arse alone because you’re obviously deranged. Covid isn’t real, how stupid can you be? Defending this nonsense, now we know. I’m ashamed for you. Like it makes me feel nauseous what you just said is so pathetic.
The lesser Charlo, TICs fake ass loves it. Guy would lick Canelo’s balls until clean right after a horse ride and a workout.

i do prefer canelo fighting jermell over jermall. jermall has been out over two years & is not mentally ready. can you tell me how you have proved covid is a virus, caught from person to person, from outside the body or off surfaces? your claiming covid is real, so please provide your process is proving that claim. your processes ron, not what you believe someone else has told you. i never said i love it ron, stop misrepresenting me, i said i prefer jermell over jermall. i'm still waiting for you to provide a link to where you claim i said david b doesn't want the canelo fight

Re: WTF is stopping Canelo from fighting Benavidez?
https://www.espn.com.sg/boxing/story...ermall-sept-30
"Canelo Alvarez to face Jermell Charlo, not brother Jermall, on Sept. 30"
Ok so Canelo will be facing Jermell Charlo.
Jermell... the undisputed at 154.
So Jermell is going to go up to 168 to face Canelo.
The same Canelo who has been called out by Jermall Charlo for a long time. Hell... at least Jermall fights at 160.
But anyway... so Jermell is going up TWO weight divisions to fight Canelo.
Canelo couldn't drag Badou Jack 20 pounds south for a BOGUS cruiserweight title... so he's dragging Jermell Charlo up TWO weight divisions to fight at 168.
Got it.
Yes. Canelo's working on his legacy. His legacy as the biggest cherry-picking, trinket-chasing, weight-jumping, ducking, coddled, overhyped DIVA that this generation of boxing has ever known.
I am SOOOO fukking glad I don't have to defend him from a fanboy's point of view.
Hell... Badou Jack ridiculed him. Told him to go fight Benavidez. JMM called him out. Said the WBC should take his straps away.
Red-haired clown is the laughing stock of the sport of boxing. At least among serious fans.
Fanboys and groupies will always give him a pass.

Re: WTF is stopping Canelo from fighting Benavidez?
Wait what's going on here, who named these guys??? So he's fighting the 154 guy? Ok that's odd, on the bright side I don't think there's any chance he doesn't face whoever comes out on top from benavidez and Tom Morello, this time the waiting doesn't help Alvarez.
I hope he doesn't fight Spence but that suggestion seems to have a lot of legs, surely too much for there to be nothing to it... And anyway Crawford will put a stop to all of that anyway
.
So it looks like whichever Charlo it is, Spence and then the winner only benavidez v Morello,....well don't be sad, one out of three ain't bad......it's nearly a meat loaf song.
Aha I see her mell is the younger of the charlie, alvarez clearly decided that he wanted to fight the young lion Charlo instead of the old wolf...or something like that.
