Re: What do you chumps do for work?
I am a linguistic imperalist. I spend time teaching language to the masses and then spend the rest of the time trying to learn the language of the masses.
Re: What do you chumps do for work?
I watched an ice cream man cleaning up on Sat (in the financial sense) we took the little one to the park, followed by ice cream. After forking out £6 for our 3 cones with extras I realised just how big the que of people was and that it had been like that all day.
That guy must have cleared £500 that day easy, he was rammed for the entire 2 hours I was there.
Re: What do you chumps do for work?
Did I spell imperialist wrongly? Complete shame on me.

I was going to call you on that.... After announcing that you teach language, of course you would have to spell one of the words wrong...
I work for a big transport company in the Revenue section, but what I do is mostly data entry.. It involves a bit of brains and keeping the people around me in line and working correctly, but most of the day it is just typing....
Probably my ideal job really. I can listen to music or podcasts or tv shows while I work and completely tune everything else out... No customers to deal with, no major problems to sort out or surprises around the corner. You know exactly what you have to do the whole day.. Just come in, type, then head home.... I've seriously thought about this, and beleive even if I was offered double the money to work somewhere else, I wouldn't take it...

Nah stealing Ice Cream is a sackable and arrestable offence mate. Seriously.
It's not how you'd perceieve it to be. For example, at least one of the Ice Cream vans around your area will actually be run by the government. You probably won't realise which one it is which is probably a good thing seen as though the actual Ice Cream men are some times ex-criminals on some form of release programme, so if you knew which one it was, i guess you'd wait for the next Ice cream man.
I don't have many funny stories but i did quit my first ever job. I was working for a company (not many vans are independant) and the van i was using was under the guise of 'Rossi's Ice Creams' and the owner of the company actually told me i had to put on an Italian accent or he'd fire me. I ended up quitting after a week. It was demeaning.

Sounds the polar opposite of my job, loads of customers to deal with, loads of huge problems and constant suprises round the corner! Keeps me busy I can tell you.
But it pays pretty well, so I just think of the money and grit my teeth.

That's one of the most ludicrous example of coercion I've ever heard.

Hahaha! Your italian accent wasn't up to scratch then and come to think of it one of my local ice cream men does look like a crook! You can be out everyday in your van? So what do you do when your not? this is interesting stuff! :)

Nah it was good, but there were times when i didn't feel like doing it. It depended on what mood i was in. I'm out most days. You have to stay consistent, otherwise you'll lose business. If i lose anymore business in my area i'll have to go somewhere else. I've already been threatened by a rival. I started my round half an hour early and took his customers. He wasn't happy. He threatened to top me.
That aside, it's all good.
