Well in the eyes of the professional judges Calzaghe did enough to merit the win.
The one judge that scored the fight for Hopkins only had it for Hopkins because of the knockdown.
By the way, if thats your kid in the the avatar, Congrats....Cute as a button

No need to see a fighter take an unnecessary beating. Smart, compassionate corner work.. don't you agree?
Money don't mean much to the comatose. ;)
I really feel Enzo waited a little long.
I know Lockett was looking toward the corner indicating he was alright, but those knockdowns were becoming scary as Lockett seemed to draoij of all strength and still take punishment.

Re: Calzaghe Vs Pavlik?????
I didn't think they would let him out for the 3rd.
To be fair though, Lockett had some brief success, unfortunately his best shots bounced back off Pavlik's bonce.

He never had a shot in hell but he tried and didn't stay down on one knee for ten like many would... He has courage and should be commended.

Nah, I love raggin on people... And one liners are one of my specialties...
Locket was a second tier opponant to say te least and should have never been in the same ring...
Locket knew after the first round it was over...

Re: Calzaghe Vs Pavlik?????
Calzaghe can beat Pavlik. But Calzaghe cannot afford to fight like he did against Hopkins. I thought Calzaghe won by a couple of rounds but there were things that have made me think a little.
Calzaghe with his A game decisions Pavlik handily...

Remember though Pavlik and Hopkins are opposites.
Ultra defensive compared with ultra offensive.
Win or lose Calzaghe will look better than he did against Hopkins (well sort of, he wont look good sparked out but I doubt that will happen)

Calzaghe wouldnt get broken up like Taylor did. But he would eat some demon rights. No doubts on that one.

Calzaghe has a good chin and we all know I'm not a hater... Quite to the contrary I think Joe C is a great champ...
But make no mistake, he has NEVER fought anybody with the pop Kelly has...
People keep mentioning Kessler above. Kessler, although his record shows a 74% KO winning percentage, look who they're against... Used up war horses and tomato cans...
Kessler is actually a very well schooled technical boxer... More that then anything... He is not the power puncher people make him out to be...

Yeah, completely different fighters. Calzaghe was sloppy against Hopkins though. Hopkins is impossible to look good against, but Calzaghe wasnt quite in the zone that night. The knockdown probably prepetuated the relatively conservative performance.
Calzaghe has the tools to make Pavlik look downright sloppy too. It has FOTY potential all over it.

FOTY... It will only be a FOTY candidate if Kelly KOs Joe... Case and point... I can't get up for that pitter pat, slap happy, partially blocked flurry style that Joe has... I think Joe was exciting in the begining of his career but not so much now... even when he wins by a large margin it's just...... Boring... Just me maybe.
FOTY would be Kelly lossing on points in a sea-saw battle and Kelly catching him on the button ala Taylor in the 11th...
Kinda like a dream I had;D

And the bulk of Pavlik's KO's have not come against inferior comp?
Pavlik is a hard puncher, for sure, but he's KO'd a gassed Taylor. The only other fighter worth a mention is Miranda. Ancient old Howard Eastman had Miranda rocking all over the shop

No, that's not being disputed... and Taylor wasn't out of gas... He got caught and finished... plain and simple. They were both tired.
I'm not disputing the fact that Pavilk has a padded record also but my point was that Kessler is not as hard a puncher as people make him out to be...
Kelly KO'd Miranda... a decent feat... Especially under the shelling he was getting in return... And Taylor is a tremendous fighter with good power that had already almost put him down for good... Kelly beat the man who beat the man twice... Kessler beat....................... Markus Beyer...
You know what I'm sayin...

I'd fancy Kessler to KO Taylor too. Miranda definitely. I couldn't see Taylor almost having Kessler KO'd though. Kessler's chin is clearly far stronger than Kelly's.

I'd have to say those are pretty fair asumptions... I'd have to agree... With the exception of Kessler KOing Taylor. I may be giving Taylor a tad to much credit but... I don't see that haoppening. It's possible and Kessler is quite skilled and strong so maybe...
Yeah, I know what you're sayin;D

True. Lockett, was brave. He wasn't intimidated in any way and b taking a knee he attempted to do everything in his power to clutch onto his portion of the fight.
However, with such a monumental difference in class, I had to wonder whether or not Lockett had been used as a sacrificial lambe for Enzo and Frank to get a look at Pavlik firsthand and gauge him against a known quantity.

I think seeing Duddy KO'ed would require a hugely exciting fight and I think there are only a select few that could possibly do it.
I just hope he's availed of his time off and practised some head movement or else we'll see plenty more blood when he fights the ghost.

Duddy is there for the taking if a half decent puncher with a decent chin ever steps in with him.
If you could box john duddys heart and guts you would make a small fortune.
Though i suspect your pavliks, mirandas or abrahams of this world would see duddy as an open target.

Well pointed out. Duddy will attempt to stand up to it and have himself disfigured as a result.
Refe has mercy on Duddy around 5 or 6 I'll say.

Re: Calzaghe Vs Pavlik?????
It's always easy to be swayed by the figter we just recently seen and forget the big picture but i still see pavlik as too young and strong right now. Joe would have to seriously hurt pavlik to keep him from coming forward and i don't see that happening. I think a couple of good shots from pavlik and calzaghe will probably try to stay away most of the fight.

This is ridiculous. You guys can't honestly believe their records are comparable?
Pavlik's THREE best wins are Taylor - middleweight champ. Miranda - failed "world" title challenger and ?? ... There isn't even a 3rd
Calzaghe's best wins... (in no particular order)
1. Hopkins - Middleweight "great," Lightheavy champ
2. Eubank - Top 5 best ever supermiddle
3. Kessler - WBC/WBA
UNBEATEN champ
4. Lacy - IBF
UNBEATEN champ
5. Reid - WBC champ
6. Brewer - IBF champ
7. Mitchell - WBA champ
8. Woodhall - WBC champ
Calzaghe's win over Omar Sheika is on a par with Pavlik's 2nd best ever win.
Come on boys, get real ;)
Every one you mentioned Pavlik would most likely knockout. Not hanging on to shady split dicisions by the skin of his scrotum like Joe. Sorry but I still think he lost to Hopkins. The Reid and Hopkins should have been loses draws if not loses. Hopkins was a loss.
-
Re: Calzaghe Vs Pavlik?????
Although a flawed way of thinking, Calzaghe's best win was against BHop... Kelly's were against JT, who he KO'd once and outboxed second... Oh and JT Beat Joe C's best op. twice... Although flawed it is true...

care to explain how you scored the contest to hopkins when calzaghe clearly won in every sane persons opinion???
And you keep mentioning the robin reid fight
reid fought the fight of his life that night and was always a very underrated boxer. he took joe out of his gameplan and dictated the pace of the fight for the majority of the rounds yet still JC was able to land big. The very best of fighters come a cropper every so often.
Manny pac has a few losses to nobodys on his CV, Mayweather almost came on the wrong end of a loss to victoriano sosa as did hatton when he fought thaxton.

You clearly have never heard of Chris Eubank.
Only a top class fighter could possibily register wins over half those names. It would take an EXCEPTIONAL talent to have beaten all of them.
Without Pavlik having faced any, it's impossible to say. But wins against Hopkins, Eubank and Kessler - Pavlik would be odds against (KO is a ridiculous notion for Eubank.. and Hopkins). Lacy, Reid, Brewer, Mitchell, Woodhall and Sheika - Pavlik would have a strong chance, but it's highly UNLIKELY he would face all without suffering defeat. Fact.

Yes, extremely flawed reasoning, my friend.
For the argument to hold any weight Calzaghe would have needed to have lost. But as we know.. He won.
All you're left with is - Taylor beat Hopkins. Cazlaghe beat Hopkins. Pavlik beat Taylor. In this scenario, there is no formline that elevates Pavlik above Calzaghe ;)
-
Re: Calzaghe Vs Pavlik?????
The calzaghe/reid fight was one of the worst fights i've seen in my life. Punch 2 times then hold, repeat for the rest of the fight. Terrible fight. How you guys thought Reid beat Calzaghe is mind boggling.

Yes I do care to. I would score in the favor of Hopkins because he knocked Joe on his ass. He hurt him several times as well. Hopkins looked like he just got done with a brisk jog after the fight. Look at Taylors face , Lockets after 2.5 rounds, Miranda was unreconnizable. I would not score punches (slaps) to the arms and shoulders. I would have deducted a piont of the second low blow. Hopkins was never hurt or even introuble in the fight. Pavlik is longer , faster , throws harder and quicker punches. He throws the same amount as Clazaghe. Thus Pavlik throws twice as many because half of his shit is pitter slaps. I dont even know how someone can like him or be a fan. He is a slapper and he tried to be a canal pal to Hopkins when he got hit in the nutts.

I do recall it close enough for a split. If it was such a one sidded affiar it would have been all three cards.
