But surely there is still some light at the end of the tunnel. Its just about whether, at his age, he has the ambition to fight his way back to the top (well number two).
With regards to Khan ever stepping up to fight Hatton, I would think it COULD happen if he ditches Warren. The lad has some serious ambition and he'd fight anyone tomorrow if it wasn't for Warren holding him back.
He lost to a fighter who never fought anyone within the top fifty.

Yeah I guess but still, Bradley has just shot himself up the rankings. Whether Witter just had a bad night (which seems to be a regular occurance) or not I don't know, maybe Bradley is capable of beating all of them but Hatton (maybe even Hatton) but if Junior faced Torres and Kotelnik and beat them, he is still up there as a contender.
I ain't Witters biggest fan, I'm just suggesting he may not be out of the running just yet. I'd personally love to see him and Hatton go at it. Would be a nice win on Hattons record :)

In witter hatton saw a retirement nest egg that would set him up long after he is finished as a pro boxer. Somewhere down the line these 2 would of met and hatton would of made more money off of fighting junior than any other light welterweight.
Now though he is pretty much between a rock and a hard place. If he fights witter in lets say a years time it`ll be not half as prosperous financially as it would of been had he of fought him on saturday. And even if hatton does dispose of junior he`ll AGAIN be accused of beating up washed up boxers.
I think you are seriously overestimating the money Hatton would generate from Witter. Sure, it would be a lot. It wouldnt be much more than by meeting anyone else though - he already sold 50'000 tickets for fighting Lazcano. And Hatton shouldnt really woried about his finances anyway - not after the Mayweather fight at least.
Secondly Hatton's fortune is based on being the premier English fighter. If anyone were starting to doubt that claim, thinking he might not even be the best around his own weight, well, they're proven wrong by now. Without Hatton even having to step in the ring.
Finally - the retirement nest for Hatton is not Witter. It is Amir Khan.
Will never happen in a million years!!
Why not? The money involved would be on a completely different level than against Witter. In fact the money alone makes this a viable possibility - not this year, probably not next year either, but certainly in the years to come after that.
Sure, if Khan remains with Warren, it won't happen until they are absolutely confident, Khan will win. But with a 3-4 years perspective that isnt an impossible scenario to believe in. Personally, I dont really see Hatton carrying on more than 2-3 more years anyway.
Then the question is if Khan can lure Hatton out of retirement into a very_ lucrative one-off fight before retiring for good?
But this is kind of irrelevant to this thread. Poor old Witter, not even in the threads about him can he remain in the spotlight... ;)

I think you touched on something very interesting there.
Bradley is a fighter who in a potential fight with Hatton, could serve to really bring the best out of Rick. He's got a rough tough style like Ben Tackie, that saw Ricky perform beautifully against in the past.
As for Junior, what can I saw. He talked it and he didn't back it up, I don't hope his careers over, but I just don't feel he was worth anythig to Rick's legacy even at his highest point.

i honestly see no more 3-4 hatton outings before he calls it a day.
Lazcano and Malignaggi are naturally this years opposition, then he`ll probably look at a bout with torres in vegas one last time before a junior witter showdown late next year to end it all.
After that ricky will have nothing left to prove, he would of unified the 140 division, wont be so daft as to believe he can go up a weight again, will be desperate to retire as a champion and of course as we all know wants to become a promoter ASAP.
Khan is a respective lightweight newbie and hasnt even got himself a world title shot yet.
The chances of him dominating at lightweight and then shooting up to 140 before hatton has gone are slim to none if you ask me!!

Ricky will NEVER fight Witter mate.
Your also forgetting the Floyd rematch at Wembley next summer
Re: Ricky Hatton; Good Call.
Good thread from guys from both sides not crap talking just debate... great read ;)
i will add this for the people who mentioned Witter wasnt a big money fight... did you see the crowd last sat for the witter fight it was pretty big ;)
anyhooo its by the by as now as that fight is gone but i will be intrested to see if this Hatton fight really is full regardless of the claims of 55,000+ tickets sold i think there is gonna be a few thousand unhappy touts come fight night ;)
PR is a wonderful thing dont you think :D
Re: Ricky Hatton; Good Call.
I think alot of people are thinking Bradley is some chump. He is a good fighter, shit I give him a fair chance to beat Hatton, if its not in England. Witter Vs. Hatton nothing was resolved between those two because they haven't fought, thats all there is to it. Just slagging off Witter because of a loss it happens everytime someone loses, its gotta be an exposure or the end for the loser....people can have bad nights. That will be proven when Paul williams rebounds and dominates Quintana. ;D

Please give me an example of when he has shown this?
Other than Vivian Harris who is/was probably even more over-rated than Witter.

Do you not think that was because the fight was in Nottingham and the fans were there to see Carl Froch? Remember the fans bought the tickets on the understanding that Froch was fighting a WBC title elimintator against Dennis Inkin

I for one wouldnt mind seeing it.
Ricky has that hunger and desire burning within him that very few fighters are able to demonstrate as well as him.
If its the tszyu hatton that fights floyd mayweather i can honestly see him winning with a stoppage.
floyd is a great great fighter make no mistake about it - but anyone that can claim the guy doesnt have flaws that can be exploited is just crazy.
When it comes to 2 men fighting on the inside, nobody in the 147 division would be able to match hatton!!

Me neither really.. I honestly cant see Ricky ever beating Floyd, so a rematch would just make him more of a disgrace in the publics eye with another loss(not that I see him as a disgrace, but everyone knows how ignorant 'fans' can be). Same with DLH, why is he bothering with a rematch, does anyone actually see Oscar having a chance?
