Yes, Cotto was gifted a handicap by Pacquiao. Take away that fight and Margarito does the same thing again. He could have fought with more abandon and make Cotto meet his maker.
Unlike HBO, this fight makes me think that Margarito wasn't loaded the first time. The only difference was the eye making him a little more cautious and an eye that wouldn't hold up so long.
Cotto boxed well, but it was a little bit empty in the end.

Miles WTF why the hell are you rooting for a cheater ? a guy who was willing to load his gloves. Permantely damage a fighter for his own gain, then has the nerve to come into the fight that smug ?
F*** Margarito he cheated in the in the 1st Cotto fight, and got his ass kicked and exposed again.
You have no hard evidence so calm down. I am a human being and people deserve forgiveness. Get over it. You should probably have a nap.

Margarito is a such a cunt.

Re: Cotto vs Margarito - the rematch - Saturday night chat/fight thread
Margarito said he was 100%. No excuses. Props to Cotto.

Re: Cotto vs Margarito - the rematch - Saturday night chat/fight thread
See the cheater isn't shit without his plaster. Cotto gave him a boxing lesson. I would have loved the fight to continue, so Cotto could fuck him up some more. Great win for Miguel.

How about evidence from a guy who's been in the ring with him ? basically admitting his punches didn't have the same effect ? and why should he be forgiven ? he got a slap on the wrist and shows no remorse.

There is no smoking gun, but there is a shit-ton of circumstantial evidence. I think you can conclude that Margarito likely cheated in the first bout.

Same here, bro. Cotto's punches had no effect in slowing down Margo, despite making his right eye that was already damaged by Pacquiao swell up. He just kept on coming like Cotto's punches weren't anything and his punches were effecting Cotto. Say what you want, but you can't load up a chin.

I'm not sure how I feel about the stoppage, but I find myself agreeing with Kellerman here.

Yes, fabulous win for Margarito tonight. Cotto didn't belong in the same ring with him.

He felt he did no wrong and boxing has allowed him to continue. Shame on humanity and boxing commisions then, but Margarito didn't grant himself a license. There are a lot of people to blame and bigger fool Cotto for not checking the wraps in the first place. Stupidity and blame abound, but you get over it and you move on.
I will not hate on anyone other than Amir Khan for the duration of a lifetime.

Re: Cotto vs Margarito - the rematch - Saturday night chat/fight thread
Yeah - we all know Margarito is a tough hombre. He might think Cotto hits like a girl, but only one guy got spanked like a little girl in the ring tonight.

That's what I was thinking, Cotto looked tremendous, I especially liked it when he tied Margarito up and bulled/wrestled him into the ropes. Margo kept coming, and was aggressive, but he wasn't effective with it.
Nice win for Miguel, I feel like he vindicated himself.

Perhaps, but we cannot say with any certainty. And even in the event that he did so, I believe in forgiveness. A man commits a crime, then we rehabilitate, we do not put away forever. If he doesn't try to cheat again, then I don't really mind him fighting. Cotto should really have checked his wraps in the first place. It would be like me coming to class without my materials. You have to do your preparation properly.

I believe in forgiveness too, but only for those who deserve it. Having courage doesn't make Margarito any less of a cheater, and he has been a belligerent and blatant liar ever since he was caught. I have no respect for him as a person or a fighter and I thoroughly enjoyed watching the beatings he took in the last two fights.

Sorry, but a man who risks taking the life of another man by cheating, does not deserve forgiveness. Especially if that man has absolutely no remorse for what happened.

Resto and Panama had a life sentence, I don't see why Margarito would deserve less just because he got caught before hand and not after the damage was done. It's all about the intentions.

It's not hard to imagine that Margo used loaded wraps in the 1st fight, he looked like a different fighter tonight, and he acts like a low-life piece of shit.

He's a fun fighter to watch and I like boxing. It is really is quite rudimentary, my dear Watson.
I'm not saying for an instant that Margarito is a saint or should be debating ethics with Chomsky, but what I am saying is that he is a fun fighter to watch and I believe in second chances. The authorities punished him. Margarito is perhaps a liar, perhaps honest or perhaps just in denial, but he is fun to watch. And it is that last point that makes me enjoy seeing him fight.
I really feel it is a shame the eye was already screwed as it detracts from Cotto's win and also detracts from giving us all the answers concerning that first fight. This fght makes me believe the eye was the factor and that wraps were irrelevant, but I am aware that this is just an opinion.

Yeah, the rational side of me understands that argument. I just think Cotto looked so vulnerable that Margarito - who I loathe - deserved the chance to keep going.

I like Miguel Cotto. What's not to like. He beat up fringe guys/fellow prospects in Maussa, Sosa, N'dou, Pinto, Bailey. Beat former belt holder in Corley.
Beat future trinket holder Torres. Beat future trinket holder Paulie M.
Beat Quintana.
Beat Zab
Beat Mosley
Beat Clottey
Beat Foreman, Mayorga, and Margarito at 154.
one clear (undisputed loss on his resume) to a future hall of famer in Pac, who has proven to be the best or 2nd best in the sport for a while.
All by a guy who doesn't have a good chin. Doesn't react to punches well.
People gave the man alot of shit for taking the knees in the first Margarito fight. I think undeservedly. He had been beaten the fuck down and his opponent (depending on your belief) had or didn't have loaded wraps.
Same man who got shit for those knees, didn't get alot of credit from fight fans for the clottey fight. it was an accidental cut that was bleeding alot and he could have let the ref/doctor stop the fight after 4 rounds and gotten the technical decision win as he was ahead on the cards. Unlike alot of the guys we see in the sport (like Robert Guererro in that 1 fight for example), he fought on and didn't take the easy way out (and the sure victory).
Cotto-a darn good fighter, who got the most out of his abilities, always was professional, always in shape, tried his best to honor the sport, and went a long way for a fighter without being blessed with a good chin. If the more talented guys in the sport would take on his level of competition and display his professionalism, boxing would be a better sport.

I actually feel the exact opposite. I think Cotto outboxes Margarito all day long with or without the eye injury, whereas I honestly believe that loaded wraps were the deciding factor in the first fight. Cotto was making him look silly before the eye acted up - he was turning him left and right in there.

Dear God, I picked Cotto TKO 11 and Povetkin TKO 9 in the prediction contest. I'll never win, I just need to accept it.

Perhaps, but nonetheless Margarito served the punishment given to him. He cannot be blamed for it being lighter than you think it should have been. He wants to fight and it pays the bills, he is only doing what he can with the possibilities out there for him.
And Cotto should have checked the wraps! That seems to go over heads all too easily. Even if guilty, Cotto allowed Margarito the opportunity by being careless in his preparation. That was extremely foolish too.

I was in the top 5 or so (I think) coming into this week. I think I got one fight right. I only how that PillowBiterMick hasn't passed me, because I've been waiting months to shove all that shit he talked back in his face.

Cotto did in this fight what he should have done in the first fight and keep boxing. It was trying to trade with Margarito that was his downfall the first time, he stayed smart this time.

F*** Margarito he cheated in the in the 1st Cotto fight, and got his ass kicked and exposed again.
You have no hard evidence so calm down. I am a human being and people deserve forgiveness. Get over it. You should probably have a nap.
There is no smoking gun, but there is a shit-ton of circumstantial evidence. I think you can conclude that Margarito likely cheated in the first bout.
Perhaps, but we cannot say with any certainty. And even in the event that he did so,
I believe in forgiveness. A man commits a crime, then we rehabilitate, we do not put away forever. If he doesn't try to cheat again, then I don't really mind him fighting. Cotto should really have checked his wraps in the first place. It would be like me coming to class without my materials. You have to do your preparation properly.
A case of what was was and that everyone should move on and learn from past mistakes.
Do you? Really? ;D Miles, you've never struck me as the forgive and forget type. More like the hold grudges till you die type.
If people are willing to change for the better, then I am all for it. I would have given Jack the Ripper 10 years for good behaviour and a promise to stay away from ladies of the night. :p

I don't agree with blaming the victim here.
What Margarito did was criminal and extremely rare. Cotto, nor anyone else, had any reason to expect anything like that from Margarito. I'm sure he and his team saw checking the wraps as just a formality, much like everyone else.

Panama and Resto didn't get a life sentence. I'm pretty sure they're out of jail after doing a few years.
Anyways some Floyd fan here just created some new thread saying Cotto is undefeated because he only lost to cheaters such as Margarito with loaded wraps and Pacman who was on super drugs.;D

You can blame Cotto's uncle, his former trainer. The story we have heard is Margarito didn't send anyone over to be there to check Cotto's wraps and Evangelista Cotto said fine we won't send anyone over to check Margarito's wraps.
Even if someone was there (and assuming they were loaded which I believe but could be wrong), no guarantee they catch it.
Brother Nazeem caught tito with some interesting wraps in 2001, and then Margarito in 2009. I can't think of another trainer catching anyone over that time period (that was publicized). The commission didn't catch it!!!!
