Who's Been Watching Dexter this Season??
I was just wondering whos been watching it so far and what everyone thinks. I think its moving a little faster then normal this season. I kinda like the direction there going though, can't wait to see how it plays out.

Re: Who's Been Watching Dexter this Season??
I love the series it's a great show but the last season angered me.
Dexter should have given himself up and faced the consequences of his actions.
Imprisoning Dokes and being responsible for his death was wrong. His code can't justify that. Dokes was a good man.
Then he killed that convicted pedo even though he wasn't a killer and then killed that police chief's brother, even though it was an accident.
He's completely violated his code now and needs to be stopped.
I wondering how this show will end and how many series we will have.
He needs to die imo. Get caught, then die by electric chair, just like his dad warned him about.

I agree he has totally violated his code especially last season by killing Dokes.
You know who's kinda getting on my nerves this season is Dexters sister, shes pissing me off she's like a man in a womans body.
Originally when they started this series it was only suppose to be one season but because it got such a big following they continued it, I hope they don't drag it on forever. Dexter is one of those character you hate to love especially since hes went against his code.

Yeah I thought it should have ended with his handing himself in last season. Dokes could have walked him into the station, like the end of First Blood when Colonel Trautman comes out with Rambo.
Then we should have had the court case, the predicatable hysterics from his sister and girlfriend and then him frying in the chair.
This season isn't as good as the others so far, we already know his back story, the shocking revelations of his secret brother and horrific childhood have been revealed.
It feels like a series just because they could make more money from it. Him getting married and having a family, it's becoming a domestic drama now.
Hopefully he dies at the end of this series. Dokes was my favourite character and I want Dexter to suffer for his death. It's weird watching a show and loving it, despite rooting against the main character. I'm sure the viewing public are supposed to see Dexter as some kind of loveable anti hero but I see him as a sick fuck who needs to be put down.
A showdown with his sister and her putting a bullet in his head would be a good finale.
Plus the longer this has gone on the more silly the idea of a moralist serial killer becomes.
But in spite of my annoyance and distaste for the main character I still love the show.
By the way does anyone else think his sister looks like the love child of Teddy Atlas and a one of those tall women freaks from some Victorian circus show?

Re: Who's Been Watching Dexter this Season??
Dexter was my favorite show before True Blood. I still love Dexter though and actually I watch it first each Sunday. That way I build to supense.
Anyway, I wanted to say that they have already ordered Season 4 & 5 of Dexter. BD Horror News - TV: 'Dexter' Renewed For Two More Seasons
I think the transition from season 1 to season 2 was better than 2 to 3.
I think they rushed the killing of Lila at the end of Season 2 and now in season 3 they make no mention of her and the kids show no signs of trama from being abducted by her.
-
Re: Who's Been Watching Dexter this Season??
At the end of season 2 didn't Dexter say he came to terms with himself and was only setting Dokes up to be the Bay Harbor Butcher?
It was actually Lila that killed Dokes. That is one of the reasons Dexter killed Lila. And the fact that Lila knew who he was then. I actually hated Dokes. I really don't like Angel either. Or Deb.
I like Dexter and Masuka.

Masuka cracks me up man he's a sick bastard lol. I thought it was funny in the other episode when he brought donuts to work and put his tickets to that thing he's doing in the donut box and was only giving donuts out if they took a ticket he's funny.

The Code of Harry stopped Dexter from killing Doakes, but he probably felt justified in keeping Doakes in the cage after Doakes shot him in the leg. Dexter was going to release Doakes and take his chances with the criminal justice system, but Lila murdered Doakes.
But THIS season was about Dexter first accidentally breaking the code and then INTENTIONALLY doing it, and the negative things that would arise from not sticking to it.
Dexter killed Doakes' murderer: he probably feels he did the right thing. As for the pedophile, Dexter probably felt he was justified in protecting Astor, and pedophiles are hardly innocent in Dexter's mind.
This season is about Dexter learning WHY he should stick to the code.
As to the morality of the show, I won't comment. ;)

Glad this thread got revived I've been thinking about this show a lot lately.
I have to say I wasn't that keen on this series initially but the last couple episodes have been fucking awesome.
I was on the edge of my seat last week when he faced off with Miguel on that rooftop and then he got kidnapped by the skinner.
Fucking awesome show, hands down my favourite on tv, better than True Blood which although great fell a little flat in the end imo and even better than Lost as although that show is awesome the PG rating means it can't have the shocking impact that Dexter has at times.
The first series when he walked into that room filled with blood everywhere and fainted and then had the flashbacks about his mum being chainsawed in front of him as a baby, was unbeliveably sick and awesome for a tv show, and the ending of the second series even though I hated it for Doke's death was still probably the most gripping drama of the year for me.
I've even become a fan of Dexter the man again, seeing how Miguel lets his dark lusts consume him gives me a respect for Dexter and his efforts to contain his sickness.
I can't fucking wait until the skinner finds out just who he's dealing with.
I'm so hoping that Dexter doesn't have to be rescued by his sister, I just want him to be totally ruthless and awesome and sadistically skin the skinner and wear his face like a mask

Man when last nights episode started I really thought the skinner had kid napped him and just like you Bilbo I thought oh shit the skinner has no idea what he just go himself into, then come to find out it was just the bachelor party haha it had me right on the edge of my seat when he was squirming around in the truck.
I'm super excited for next weeks episode I can't wait but then when its over its going to leave me wanting more and we are gonna have to wait til next year.
I was right with you about this season Bilbo up until about 3 episodes together I kept thinking in my head man how are they going to wrap this whole thing up in just a few episodes well they did a pretty damn good job so far.
since this season is just about over I'm kinda curious on where there going to go with this next season.

Re: Who's Been Watching Dexter this Season??
I think Debra is going to find out about Dex... In that last episode, she went looking into her Fathers file re: His CI Lover... However that file was destroyed because it contained all the info on Dexter..
Obviously they wouldn't open that story thread without intending on taking it somewhere... But it's not really all going to come to a head in next weeks final episode... So I think the next Season will have Deb trying to work out stuff, and maybe eventually finding out through some piece of undestroyed evidence, that her fathers CI was the mother of Dexter and the Ice truck Killer...
There are couple of books which Dexter was based off that my girlfriend has read... I told her i'll go Dexter on her if she tells me any information about it and ruins the show for me..
The only thing she slipped out was back in one of the old episodes where Rita's boy was getting pissed off about the dog next door, he goes "I just want it to shut-up".. And that is what Dexter said before he killed the Dog when he was a kid... And she said that in the books Rita's kid may show signs of being evil like Dexter..... But they havn't shown absolutely anything at all along that path apart from that one line from the first season I think it was... And I think it would be a little to sadistic to have the kid turning into a killer...

Wow that would be crazy if they did end up going in the direction of the Kid being just like Dexter. It is on Showtime so anything is possible. I thought there was only one book about dexter and it was the first season, guess not if your read a couple of them, I might have to get my hands on a copy of these books. I kinda didn't want to before just because I really liked th show and normally when I read a book I like the book better.
This is probably one of my favorite shows in along time, its just something totally different I love it.

Re: Who's Been Watching Dexter this Season??
It seemed like they've been using a lot of filler earlier on to get to the real meat: Dexter and Miguel. And now that he just killed Miguel in the next to last episode and the Skinner is still out there, there seems to be a lot of work to be done in the last ep. It really picked up for me, though.
-
Re: Who's Been Watching Dexter this Season??
There are actually 3 Dexter books..
They are :
Dearly Devoted Dexter
Dexter in the Dark
Darkly Dreaming Dexter
My girlfriend has read all 3 and she said that they compliment the show perfectly, as the tv show has a lot of different stuff going on and isn't based specifically of the events in the book. So it's worth reading them.
She also said that the people come across exactly the same in the book as they do in the tv show, especially Dexter. So even with already having an image of Dexter from watching it on tv, it fits perfectly with the book's Dexter and you can picture everything in the book as it happens on TV... Usually she's the same, she doesn't like watching movies then reading the book of it, or the other way around. But she said reading the books just makes her love the tv show even more, and watching the tv show makes her love the books even more..
If I had time i'd get stuck into the books as well..

Re: Who's Been Watching Dexter this Season??
I have a theory on Dexter, let me know what you all think.
Harry believes he saw certain characteristics in Dexter that would eventually lead to him becoming a serial killer. So he 'trained' him to keep them in check and gave him a code. What if Harry's code is what made Dexter a serial killer? We already know that Harry had a bit of a conflict of interest when it comes to Dexter (he was banging Dexter's mom), what if by not getting Dexter the help he needed to turn Dex away from some of his sociopathic tendencies he turned him into a killer. The kid was traumatized by seeing his mother get chainsawed, of course he was a little weird. And how about the fact Harry completely abandoned Dexter's brother? Harry isn't the nice guy Dexter and Deb remember him as and I think he wanted to craft a weapon to get at the people he can't put away.

Very interesting theory man. It makes sense because like you said Harry could get the bad guys he wasn't able to put behind bars. I like it. Maybe they end up going down that path you never know.

What also makes me think that is true sociopaths are only able to mimic emotions. They can't really care about anything but themselves. When Deb was kidnapped by his brother he really cared. And when Camilla was sick in the hospital he really cared. He may not have completely understood all the machinations behind wanting to die, but then again, he's never had cancer. You or I might have felt the same as him. If he were truly indifferent he wouldn't have put himself at risk to kill her.

Re: Who's Been Watching Dexter this Season??
So I watched the final episode of the season tonight. Man I think this season was better than the second one. I thought they wrapped it up nicely. I can't wait til next season already. What did the rest of you think of it?
-
Re: Who's Been Watching Dexter this Season??
Maybe the Sopranos has got me spoiled, but I don't like these neatly wrapped up season finales. I'm just as disappointed in this one as I was the last one. It was just too... quick. Like they were rushing through it. This one was better than the last in that Dexter's fiancee has a secret that IS going to come back and bite her in the butt, but the whole skinner thing was much too well kempt in the end. All these times they come close and keep missing him and as soon as he catches Dexter, Dexter escapes and kills him? So the skinner knew how to tie everyone down until that day? Part of the problem is they make Dexter the center of everything. The side story between Debra and that dude was so weak. Now her looking into the CI her father was banging is interesting because it was Dexter's mother, but they left us with no clue where that might lead. I really like the show, but there is so much more they could be doing with it.

Man Sopranos was my favorite show ever. I still actually think they may make a movie in a couple years. Once David Chase starts missing the show.
My only complaint about this season is like you said they did rush to wrap this up in this season.

Re: Who's Been Watching Dexter this Season??
Yeah I agree completely about the rushed feel to the last episode. After spending an entire season with the skinner running as a main plot line to the big showdown last all of 8 minutes or so was really disappointing.
Still a great show, can't wait for the next season, I just wish we would have had an entire episode with Dexter being held by the skinner and the pyschological games that would have gone on between captor and prisoner.
When you consider how well they did the second series finale with Dokes being held captive for ages by Dexter this was poor.
It's worth noting that one of the main screenwriters left the show after the second series concluded and I have to say I have definitely notices a deterioration in the quality this time around.

One thing I loved was Dexter's, "I don't give a fuck" attitude when he was tied to the skinner's table.

Yeah I thought that was cool also. He said something along the lines of when a something is trapped they will cut off there own leg or arm to get away and I have to do the same.

Yeah head writer and executive producer Daniel Cerone left after the second season. The first two seasons were awesome so I'm guessing his departure had something to do with the slight decline this year.
Having said that, it's always harded to keep a great series going than it is to have a great first season.
I just felt this season was a bit patchy, some elements dragged on and on whilst others were neatly resolved in a few minutes, a serious pacing problem imo.
There's also some characters that I'm not sure whose purpose is. Quinn for example, he came in to replace Dokes and it looked for most of the series like he was the head for some kind of major corruption story. After several episodes it ended up as a non story, then it seemed like he might be a possible love interest for Debra as she sought to get over Anton. But again no, so what exactly was his point on the show?
All the stories that were building around his character fizzled out into nothing which made me wonder why they wasted so much script time on him when they could have been developing other parts of the story, maybe concentrating on the existing characters more.:-\

The only thing I can think of why they did do some of the things you mentioned is maybe next season they are going to build off of what they did this season. But who really knows, only the writer.

I think we will see Quinn as dirty in the next season. What is meant by 'dirty' will be anyone's guess. Nothing has been proven with him either way as to whether or not the IA investigation was legit. I agree it made no sense to bring that up this season. That side story should have been explored to its fullest in a later season.
I'd like to see at least some of the focus not be on Dexter. Some interesting side stories are there for the exploring. I hate how the lieutenant just completely dropped Doakes. I thought this season she would set out to prove who the real killer was. She knew it wasn't Doakes and knew it was someone in their department and just gave up.

All the stories that were building around his character fizzled out into nothing which made me wonder why they wasted so much script time on him when they could have been developing other parts of the story, maybe concentrating on the existing characters more.:-\
I think we will see Quinn as dirty in the next season. What is meant by 'dirty' will be anyone's guess. Yeah she pisses me off immensely. I mean she knew Miguel for 20 years and were former lovers, then she goes out on one pub date with that lawyer woman and all of a sudden Miguel killed her 'friend' and she struggles to get over the loss of her?
Get real, if my ex lover, and someone I'd been friends with for 20 years and who was an important part of my life killed a bloke I'd been out to the pub with one time I'd be more gutted about the fact that my ex girlfriend was a killer and reflect on that relationship rather than the loss of this guy.
But she was able to not get over former lover and long term partner Doakes in an episode or two and Miguel it only took half an episode.
Meanwhile 3 episodes later she's still pining for her lost lawyer 'friend'

Keep in mind that Maria Laguerta is the same woman who fucked her Lieutenant's fiancée for awhile until she got her desk back. She's a shallow, self-serving maneater who can't keep a relationship with a man to save her life. Plus, Miguel dumped her and married someone else. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. ;)

The lieu who took her spot for a minute? I remember her coming in and saying her fiancee was cheating on her, but I didn't know it was Laguerta! I missed that. She seems to use her vagina to her advantage.
Maybe she missed her lawyer friend so much because they were clamping down on each other in a dual scissor lock.
