How long does it take for the average wimpy guy to build muscles?
I mean, how many workouts roughly?
I'm currently training 4 times a week. (This is my sixth week) Two whole body workouts with just 2 sets of about 8 exercises along with two dedicated cardio days, rowing and cycling.
My next goal is to add a long ( 1 hour) walk once a week just to get a few more calories burned and do some exercise outdoors for a change.
I'm not ready to go into split workouts with multiple sets and reps, and I'll never be able to train like you young fit guys.
But I'd like to lose about 10 lbs of fat and replace with 10 lbs of muscle. If I was dedicated, trained regularly and ate well, what's a realistic timeframe for that?

A year, do it gradually or you'll do yourself a mischief.

I'll help you out tomorrow with a plan. AdamGB would be worth asking aswell. I think he's a personal trainer. I've studied Sports Nutrition so i can put together some form of nutritonal plan. I'm a little busy tonight but i'll sort it for you tomorrow.

Cheers man, I've got a ton of books and training manuals, but what I lack, like every man, is motivation.
Hopefully if I commit to it publicly on here it will motivate me to get back into it again.
I'm feeling much better already and can only imagine how fit someone must feel if they have made it a lifestyle for several years.

Bilbo if you want to repair your lungs go and do Chi gung.
Its an advanced tai chi exercise system that drives life force chi energy through the areas you are working on.

Bilbo. Are you working? All you seem to be doing lately is working out, fucking fatties and shopping.

Re: How long does it take for the average wimpy guy to build muscles?
A lot depends on you genetics/metabolism. I am naturally skinny and have to work to pack on muscle. I try and eat 200 grams of protein a day. I don't pay much attention to fat content because I burn thru it. If you gain weight easy you have to eat low fat high protein like tuna/chicken breast. I have found creatine to work but it can screw up stomach. I took half the recommended dose. You can see results in a couple months if you really put you mind to it......you have to eat right though...if you don't eat a ton of protein, say 1 gram per lb of your weight, you will struggle to pack on muscle.

Re: How long does it take for the average wimpy guy to build muscles?
If your skinny you should be noticing muscle definition at a very early stage. If your a fatty it naturally takes longer as you have to get rid of the fat first
If however you happen to be as great as i am after 1 workout session you should look and feel like geoff capes;D;D;D

Nah your way off Homo. Way off. Sweep was the power in that trio. Sooty used to suck Matthew off to get what he wanted and Sue just moaned ALL the time.

Matthew was noncing all of them, common knowledge today
Dont get me wrong sooty was a tit, but at least he had the knowledge to shove one up sue every now and again. Sweep on the other hand just seemed frigid

I think we can all agree on the bit in bold.
Sooty was indeed a tit but I just liked Sweep's attitude - he was more stand-offish, aloof, and he wasn't out to impress anybody. Sooty was a public-school type.

Cant argue with that
As already mentioned the geezer of puppets is zippy. I always used to think as a small child that zippy was the sort of fella who once the show had finished and they`d all been tucked in he`d head off to his local pub on his way stopping in the bookies to see what was occuring

Zippy was good, thats true, but I think he was more into his drugs. He seems the type that did his fair share of acid but has left it behind now, but the impact it had remained. Bungle was a cross-dresser.

Re: How long does it take for the average wimpy guy to build muscles?
Depends on a lot of things mate. I have been training for a yr and 3 months. I probably had a little more weight on me than you would (was around 95 kilos with a bit of flab) and then I dropped to 83 kilos with only doing weight training and started to notice I was toning up after a few months. Thats called newbie gains because its such a shock to your body. Once your body gets use to it (around 5 to 6 months) thats the hard part. You gotta push yourself to get past plateaus and make sure your eating properly. I dont have a really strict diet but thats because I dont eat heaps of shit anyway or eat that much at all (I rely on protein shakes to make up what I dont eat) all because I dont have enough time in the day to eat that much.
You gotta eat shit loads of protein and cut out the fatty stuff. I currently train 5 days a week. In the yr and a bit I have been training I have noticed a massive difference in my body composition. Much wider at the shoulders and chest, chest and back are thicker, arms a much bigger and stomach is shit loads more toned. But you cant just go "well im going to train for 2months and get absolutely tanked" coz a lot of guys do that and end up disappointed coz it wont happen that fast. Sure if you take steroids you can put a good amount of muscle on in a few months but if you havent been training long then chances are you will get fat from them because you havent had time to perfect your diet and training routine. I also take supplements: 100% Whey protein powder, Superpump 250 pre workout (i train at 5 am in the morning so I need the fuckin energy lol) and currently Size On which is a creatine supplement that you take during your workout.
Just to give you an idea on how much progress you can make in a yr (everyone is different though) when I first started bench pressing I would struggle with 40 to 50 kilos (fuckin weak as) and now I can bench press around 110 kilos (still not as high as I want it to be, I want 150 but Ill get there).

40 or 50 kilos is quite a bit stronger than me right now!
But I bought these awesome Bowflex Select Tech adjustable dumbells. Each dumbell weighs up to 21 kgs and if I can get to the point where they aren't heavy enough for me I will be well pleased.
I think I only weigh about 68 kgs so benching 100 is very impressive.
Are you talking one rep max's here or sets of 12 though?

I have some similar dumbells that allow you to select weight coz I train at home and dont have much room for weights. Mine go up to 35 kilos and after that I have other dumbells and I just put normal plates on them.
I can do 6 reps of 110kilos but then again thats always after I have worked my way up to that weight so if I did a quick light warm up then Id probably get more.
I have to be careful when using dumbells for things such a flies or dumbell presses coz I have double jointed shoulders (shoulders used as stablizer muscles) and if I make one wrong move I can pop them out especially with alot of weight on them. I have done it once before and was holding 25kg in each hand with no spotter and nearly dropped one on myself, shoulder hurt like fuck afterwards lol. So for things such as chest I try to keep to things such as dips, elevated push ups and chair push ups (that way you can get more of a stretch because you can go deeper), flies (not too heavy, if I go heavy I do partial reps to minimise stress on my shoulders) and bench press with a smith machine on some days and other days on free weights.

You sound pretty strong Snakey, 25 kg in both hands is a fantasy to me at this stage.
I would like to think that with a year of training I could do with a bit more weight than 25 kg per dumbell for flat bench presses and maybe squats but I can't ever see myself getting strong enough to need more than that for other exercises.

You probably will Bilbo. My friend started training 6 weeks ago. He is about 5'9 and weighed about 9st 7lbs - so a tiny little guy. He started by chest pressing 10kgs in each hand (Hahaha!) but is already doing 20kg pretty easy.
I started at 15kg in each hand for the flat press but 6 months later im doing 34kg-38-kg with pretty similar improvments for other exercises (I started by shoulder pressing 10kg in each hand but now im doing 26kg-28kg). It very very much depends on the person I think.
Also, a few years ago I was 6ft, and about 12st but looked really skinny, looked about 10st. I quit smoking but did no training and went up to 14st 7lbs in 5 weeks. Gained 2 and a half stone in five weeks and it was alomost completely muscle. I don't know how it happened but it did. So my advice is the quickest way to gain weight is to quit smoking. (I'm not sure if it would work if you were a non-smoker that takes up smoking just for this reason then quits! But why not try?haha).

Yeah exactly, I have seen guys gain shit loads of muslce in the first few months. It depends on your genetics. Of course it will help if you are already skinny in the looks department, if your fat then you will notice strength increase quite soon but wont see your body change until you increase intensity so you burn fat while you lift. I hate fuckin cardio but I usually add in some super sets into my weight program which gives my body all the fitness I need lol ;D
