How many guns are enough?
This story was in the news last month about this old fella that died but had two tonnes of ammunition in his home and over a thousand guns.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...eles-home.html
Can someone confirm if there is limit on the amount of guns you can own in the USA?
Sick selfish laws.
-
Another one of these eh? How many is enough for you?
-
As many as you want and can afford. How many pair's of shoes should you be allowed to own?
Myself..I would own at least a dozen rifles in different calibers built on the AR platform, another dozen bolt action rifles, five or six lever action rifles, at least 200 handguns, and a lot of ammo for each.
At one point I had 43 guns but I had to sell them.
-
Re: How many guns are enough?
What's the difference between owning 1 gun and 500? It's all a matter of whether the person is fit to own them in the first place, which the vast majority of gun owners are in fairness. I'd imagine if you could work out the statistics, the chance of someone with 1 gun using it to commit crimes or hurt people is overwhelmingly higher than people with hordes of them. I don't understand or respect the mentality of the latter myself, just saying.
-
Re: How many guns are enough?
It's not how many guns.
It is who is at the firing end, and who is at the end of the barrel.
If I gave you 20 Guns, would you want to live in the bad section of Chicago.

Re: How many guns are enough?
Also, there is a big market for collectable guns. They can be a good investment. Civil war era, revolutionary war error ww one and two. When you see someone with a large amount of guns there is a good chance he is a collector.

@TitoFan. Why should it matter to anybody else how many guns I own? It is not your business. If I use a gun to commit a crime, what crime could I possibly commit that is not already going to catch me an extra 20 years?
The simple fact of owning a lot of guns....if you and I went shooting with 15, 20 different guns, you would be a convert.
-
Re: How many guns are enough?
Guns are Good.
There are a lot of 'targets' out there ......... ;)
-
It doesn't really make a difference. Having more guns isn't gonna increase temptation to use them.

Re: How many guns are enough?
He used to do this ' she reached into my pants...is that a roll of quarters....no it's my Love Gun' routine that was cool. He did it every time. I saw Kiss 4 times in three years, and the videos from every tour. People liked that bit.
-
Re: How many guns are enough?
The more guns there are the more chance they could fall into the wrong hands.
-
Re: How many guns are enough?
Dude collects guns, I don't see the big deal.
If you're fit to have 1, you're fit to have 100 IMO.
Doesn't make you any more dangerous. You can only fire one at a time anyway (or two, Hard Boiled style).
-
Re: How many guns are enough?
At one time I had 7 guns, 5 air rifles and 2 shot guns, that's the most I ever own at one
one time never shot anybody,! I don't suffer from mental illness.;)
-
Re: How many guns are enough?
~ Guns, Guns, Guns ~
I do believe we do need a new set of 'General Rules' here in the United States.
The NRA should lead the charge, otherwise somebody is going to 'Tax' the hell out
of ammunition.

Who knows, grey.... I might. ;D
Still, I think my objection is pretty much summed up below.

Look at the Adam Lanza shooting spree. The guy pretty helped himself to an assortment of all sorts of guns owned by his mother, much like Arnold shopping for guns in that armory in that very old movie, "Commando". The woman, had she lived, should have been brought up on charges of major stupidity on at least two counts.
Having that many guns easily accessible in her home.
And two..... with a mentally unstable son like that, she should've never been allowed to have any guns in her house in the first place.
It was all too easy.
-
She had always conducted herself responsibly and legally. Who has ever had a child and thought "my baby is a lunatic that will someday murder me and go on a killing rampage"? And, if we agree that children should not pay for the sins of their parents, how do you justify restricting the rights of a parent based on what their child may or may not do at some future time?

Re: How many guns are enough?
Before Katrina none, after Katrina two.

Re: How many guns are enough?
I feel like it's a huge self fulfilling thing, that doesn't reflect the mentality of the owner at all. I've never held a gun in my life, and I'm from a city where nobody ones own aside from the odd legal owner who goes out to the firing range. If I for some reason moved to a certain neighborhood in America, and heard about some violent robbery happening within any reasonable distance of me, I'd want to go out and buy a sawed off shotgun ASAP. Anyone who wants to tell me that makes me less responsible to own a gun would get shot in the face for no reason. FACT.

Guns, Guns, Guns.
A gun never shot a person on it's own.

43 guns.!
This is the problem.
Why is there no cap on the amount of guns an american citizen can own?
I know it takes one gun or bullet to kill etc but at least put a limit on this from this point onwards..
-
Re: How many guns are enough?
If I lived in the States i'd own a gun too. In fact I'd quite like to own a gun, it would make robbing bookies easier
-
Re: How many guns are enough?
Look. Here in the United States we need guns. Especially 'Big Game' Rifles.
You see, we have a lot of 'Rosie O'Danimals' roaming around.
Some call it 'The Lou Costello Head'

What I own and why I own are my business, not yours and really not the government's business either.

So grey is "the problem" or people like him are "the problem"? I'm more than willing to test this theory out....@greynotsoold how many people have you shot, killed, threatened, robbed with your firearms?

Pleeease grey......
I take it you've never been a parent. Somehow I find it hard to believe that little Adam was a perfectly normal boy all his life, raised normally as all other children..... and somehow developed this mental instability and murderous rage that made him steal those guns.... kill her.... and wipe out an elementary school. And all this time the mother had no clue there "might be a problem".
You believe that.... and I've got some beachfront property in Nebraska I'd like to sell you.
That's the problem with the pro-gun crowd. Nothing is up for debate. It's all in.... take it or leave it.... my way or the highway. No second-guessing that maybe there's something wrong with this picture. Shit..... I didn't live with Adam Lanza and even I can tell from his picture that there were a few loose bolts in there.

I think I said this in the other thread, but they should make a rule that if you have a bowl cut, you can't buy a gun.

Not only that..... his hairdresser should get jail time.

That would probably be either him or his mother.

I like the rule, though. If you consciously subject yourself to having a cereal bowl placed over your head, and a pair of scissors to finish a one-minute haircut..... then go out into the street like that..... then no..... no guns for you, young man.

As much as I detest guns I would agree with Fenster.
Americans love their guns and I would rather have one to protect my household knowing the man coming in will most likely have one.

If you did suffer from mental illness the fact that you can use those 7 guns is much more of a potential to damage and kill compared to not having one.
Lets just imagine for a second if guns were illegal in the usa...you guys worship the guns.

You answered your own question a couple of posts ago, and New Orleans is a beautiful city man, why don't you just read up on this a little? Also, check out the statistics for gun crimes committed with illegal firearms as opposed to registered ones in the USA. If they suddenly made all of them illegal, they would overwhelmingly be hurting the responsible owners who have the same concerns and reason for owning guns as you just admitted you can appreciate.
