Wilder says he won't go to Russia to fight Povetkin

Re: Wilder says he won't go to Russia to fight Povetkin
Well to be fair he is the champion, why would he want to go and fight Povetkin in russia :S... Although if the wbc do finally make this fight happen and it goes to purse bids I guess he might not be able to avoid it not without losing the wbc belt...
I suspect wilder will take on martin next though.

Re: Wilder says he won't go to Russia to fight Povetkin
England would be a good location centered between Russia and the U.S. and easy to get to. Just a thought! By the way, the reason I am editing this is because England also has one other advantage, it is warmer than Russia so no excuses if America is out of the venue why not England? I am from the U.S. but what better place than one where you don't have to learn the alphabet to order supper in a restaurant that to me is more like home so he should not have anything to complain about and most travelers love British hospitality any way.

Re: Wilder says he won't go to Russia to fight Povetkin
I think Povetkin would beat Wilder, but you can't blame anyone with any kind of pull for not wanting to fight in Russia, it's a shitty place.

It's actually a beautiful country.
Russia is similar in many ways to my homeland of Canada.

Re: Wilder says he won't go to Russia to fight Povetkin
Oh scenically sure, much of it looks to be. I believe you're in BC as well, no? But as far as expecting fair treatment going in there as a foreign fighter, not so much.

Really? Tell me more on how similar they are :)
I wouldn't fight in Russia either, he's making a good choose

Foreign boxers have been robbed many times in the USA. It happens in most countries.
That being said, I can't think of a single fight where a foreign boxer was robbed in either Ukraine or Russia.

He may not have a choice if it goes to purse bid. And again,- Haymon vs the Russian mafia in a cash-off for venue is almost as interesting as the fight.

They are just threatened to keep quiet, don't mess Putin, Ukraine might be alright.

Re: Wilder says he won't go to Russia to fight Povetkin
He's the Champ, so it's only fair he fights at home. Tbh , he's gonna need every advantage he can get in my book.
Like iaminuit says, he'd better hope it doesn't go to purse bids, although he will be rewarded handsomely for losing his title.

Read about what happened to Oquendo fighting Chagaev there a couple years ago. I can't think of a single more notable fight to ever take place in Russia at all, for that matter? Maybe that's for a reason.

Unless they low ball Povetkin there is no reason for a purse bid but I see it happening over something silly though. I just do. Haymon wont win that one. Imo purse bids should only happen in unification's. Home ice is a card the champion has to play, not the challenger.
-
Re: Wilder says he won't go to Russia to fight Povetkin
I think he'll play it safe and hold all the cards in a unification with Martin. My god, can't believe we're talking unification with two guys with still so many unanswered questions. Find a neutral site of buy a jacket ffs.

LOL.
I guess that's possible but I just don't see Povetkin stepping aside like Golovkin has however the WBC is involved and they are as slippery as eels in a pail of snot. See Alvarez for a current example.

errr wladimir v povetkin.... fight went to purse bid and povetkins team won so the fight happened in russia.... The russian "business men" certainly have the cash to win whatever purse bid they feel like

It was good to see Povetkin ringside. Up close and personal for Wilder. Thought all along a co main with another trinket warmer almost seems insurance policy. Wilder needs to forget about Fury now, same for Fury with Wlad up. I get not wanting to Russia but honestly a guy should be just as hesitant to go to Argentina or any site involving 3 Texas judges :dunce: :bag: :alcoholic:.

Re: Wilder says he won't go to Russia to fight Povetkin
I struggle to see any other outcome if/when these 2 go head to head other than a dominant win for Povetkin. I think the Russian is just far too polished a fighter for Wilder and I'd be pretty confident of it ending in spectacular fashion and quite early too.

You know, the Ibf has kind of made a move on its own here. They don't seem keen on unification either. The WBC claims to not want their champ carrying another but that depends on who it is of course. Its as if all the governing bodies breathed a sigh of relief the moment Wlad was beat and the fragmentation began.

It pisses me right off too. The ONLY people benefiting from the fragmentation of the division is these governing bodies. For all the shite he spouts I loved it when Fury said he wanted the sanctioning fees back from the IBF...... And why the hell not? He'd just beaten the guy who'd held their title for a decade and then because he had to honour a rematch clause (which is a mandatory Klitschko clause) they strip him??? Fuck off IBF, any respect (not that I have much for any of them) I had for you has been destroyed lately.

Re: Wilder says he won't go to Russia to fight Povetkin
I don't think having the fight in Russia is a problem. They've got serious indoor heating over there and judging is normally fine. Enzo didn't have a problem getting the decision over Roy Jones, did he?
Povetkin's promoter seems to be in the business for the publicity it gives him as I can't think of any other reason for him to have bid $23 million for Povetkin-Klitschko. If he bids that kind of money again Wilder is going to have to go and fight in Russia.
-
Re: Wilder says he won't go to Russia to fight Povetkin
You don't go fight in Russia.
You go to Russia and have your belt taken under threat of bodily harm, kidnapping, murder, etc...
-
Re: Wilder says he won't go to Russia to fight Povetkin
Wlad was paid an extortionate amount to defend his title against Povetkin. If that sort of money is offered Wilder will go.

Add to that the great possibility that classy fans in guerilla costumes show up and people start hucking bananas at the guy. Because that’s just what kind of tools they are. I think Povetkin goes to the States.

I wouldn't automatically blame that on bad or deliberately bad judging, you have seen Deontay fight. Right?;)

Re: Wilder says he won't go to Russia to fight Povetkin
To be fair why would the champ go to the challengers backyard. That does not make since if you are the belt holder the other guy should come to your place and fight it out. Worse comes to worse just go to vegas because that is a pretty neutral place to go and it is fight capital.

How many more fights does he need in America?
Hes supposed to be a WORLD champion, not an American champion. Too many Americans never venture outside of America its sad really. Ali did it, travelled the world and fought.

Re: Wilder says he won't go to Russia to fight Povetkin
Bit of a liberty to stereotype the Russians as a bunch of corrupt racists.
I didn't see anyone chucking bananas at Roy Jones the other month. And considering a Russian oligarch paid $23 million to get Wlad to Russia, surely that would've been a good time to rob him there and then. They didn't.
-
Re: Wilder says he won't go to Russia to fight Povetkin
I didn't stereotype at all. S stereotype is based on false accusation. I said the possibility exists just like it does when our black NHL players go there to play. It happens all the time and to be blunt they are fucking racists whether they lay on Roys sack or not.

MONEY, my friend, MONEY!

Re: Wilder says he won't go to Russia to fight Povetkin
He's the challenger and unless he's lowballed there is no reason for a purse bid and he should be willing to go regardless. Calzaghe never went anywhere until the end of his career along with tons of other champions. Povertkin seems ready to travel but this comment of "if its promoted correctly" is a bit of a joke considering they are going to the land of promotion. Given the state of their amateur programs perhaps he meant its all good unless the date overlaps my new juice cycle.

All Russians are racist? When they're not being racist it's because they're pretending not to be racist?
I've never seen the behaviour you claim is likely if a fight takes place in Russia. Feel free to show some evidence

I'll you want it, go find the shit yourself. I'm not doing your work for you. Try the internet. I dont care whether you have seen it or not. I have and in my country and have seen tons of footage over the years and reports by hockey palers are everywhere so please...... dont try to make it sound like I'm a liar cause now you sound like a dipshit.
Who said all Russians were racist? I didn’t. "They" does not imply all when taken into context everything else I have said. I inferred they have a racist culture and they do. I said people show up at sporting events involving black athletes wearing gorilla costumes, throwing bananas all the time. And they do. Now just to be clear.....when I say "all the time" that does not mean every event and when I say Russian fans, that does not mean all Russian fans. FFS Kovalev even gave a shirt as a gift with a chimp's face super-imposed on Stevensons body with a caption reading "Adonis looks great" and tweeted it so I'm not off in my conclusion or charge in the least.
Now run along cause I won’t be replying to your next attempt at pretzel logic.
-
Re: Wilder says he won't go to Russia to fight Povetkin
To be fair there's a huge problem in Russian football with racism. They've had to play Champions League matches behind closed doors due to the behaviour of their fans. Even club directors are openly racist. The problem is getting worse and most cases now aren't even reported, never mind punished.

I'm a dipshit. I've misrepresented what you said. When you say "Russian fans" it doesn't mean "Russian fans." "They" doesn't mean "they." Kovalev wore a chimp shirt, which proves you right.
I merely said that it was unfair to label all Russians as corrupt/racist.
Here's your quote again.

I've never seen the Russian "tools" chucking bananas at people in a boxing match. If you have then fine, i'll take your word for it. Next time I watch a fight from Russia i'll pay closer attention.

I'd prefer massive cunt but dipshit is fine. Only ever expressing my opinion, nothing personal.

A lot of Russian sports fans are openly racist, and ironically behave more like dribbling primates than the black athletes they howl at.
That said I don't really care where they fight, Povetkin/ Wilder needs to happen already and the winner should face the Fury/Wlad winner.

Maybe that could have been worded better:o
