Lets face it,just about all fighters are on at the very least protein shakes, and usually creatine as well.
The Atkins diet is still a death sentence

For a person such as myself, low in body fat who has a fairly vigorous workout routine, adding protein shakes and L-glutamine to my post workouts immediately had me going from having muscle strains and injuries...to having next to none and showing rapid lean muscle gain. Essentially, meeting my goals without pain and injury.

    30g protein (non-gainer) + 5g L-glutamine after every hard workout.

You need to take in simple carbs after each workout also to replace the glycogen you burn during your workout.

Just eating protein after exercise is pretty much as good. In theory a shake would be better as digestion would be quicker...but the difference is minimal. Personally i haven't had a protein shake for about 6 months. There's been no holt in progress...just made sure i consume enough protein in my diet.

I used to rely on them a lot when i thought i needed 300 g of protein per day

Speed of absorption (if its whey mixed with water), convenience (not having to cook a meal), and the fact that they taste good and act as a sort of treat are the main reasons i like them.

I know this is psychological but i always just feel like I've had a drink - i can never convince myself I've had a meal! It's as if psychologically solid things are just way more filling or something? Ok weird I know!

haha same with me Sharla, I always have to have some peanuts and sultana's with it or a small bowl of rice, just so I get that "I've just eaten" feeling.

Glad I'm not the only one! I feel a bit less nutty now - and with me every little bit of sanity counts

Maybe it's partially just the action of chewing and the act which triggers something in the brain?

Yeah sort of like mental conditioning I'm guessing, our whole lives we've been taught that eating food is what we need to get rid of hunger. I've heard some obese people confuse thirst with hunger, a reason for there over eating.
