How could he have played it any different at WW? He made the fight with Zab before the Baldomir loss, when Zab was the undisputed lineal champ. How is that not trying to fight the real WW champ. Then Zab loses. He fights him anyway, but that pretty much forced him to fight Baldy if he wanted the lineal title. He could have not fought Baldomir, but then he would be ignoring the real lineal champ. I guess he could have fought Cotto instead of Oscar, but that would would have made about ZERO business sense.

Hatton was the universally recognized 140lb champ and former beltholder at 147. Are would you give Kessler or Calzaghe crap for defending against and beating Kelly Pavlik? The univeral champ one weight class below is almost always a legit defense.

He'll fight Cotto eventually. If he doesn't fight Cotto with the next two years, we can bitch, because Cotto is the ONLY fighter who has really earned a shot at Floyd at 147.
