Thompson wasn't a big deal. Haye fought him when he was like 56 years old or something, I'm exaggerating of course but he was well past his prime.

He beat Eubank, but Eubank was a middleweight moving up to cruiser at the end of his career after losing 3 fights to Collins and Calzaghe.

A well past his prime Eubank should have knocked Thompson out in the first fight and was winning in the second until stopped on a cut.

Thompson was a very average world champ, below even Enzo Maccerinelli.

Haye fought him in his 11th fight for fucks sake. Thompson was coming off a stunning KO of Sebastian Rothman. How many fighters can you name that fought a guy of Thompson's ilk so early in their career?

Even if you think Thompson was shit () he still had mixed and won at world-class level for cruiserweight. He was a DANGEROUS opponent for anyone!!!

Thompson would have destroyed Maccarinelli at any point (Enzo wouldn't be allowed near him though. That's the difference between fighters like Haye and protected ones).

It wasn't that big of a deal Fenster, Marty Rogan fought Audley Harrison in his 11th fight and Matt Skelton in his twelth beating both.

At the time Thompson wasn't considered any better than either of them, he was a big underdog against Haye.

His 'spectacular' win over Rothman was spectacular only in that he was getting his ass smashed as usual and Rothmann wasn't a world class fighter by any means.

Carl Thompson was 40 years old when he fought Haye, probably the same kind of level as John Thaxton now, or a Danny Williams or Matt Skelton.

A tough challenge and a step up for sure but not someone Haye was expected to slip up against.

Nathan Cleverley beat Toney Oakey in his 13th fight, who was as good as a 40 year old Carl Thompson.

Even the mediocre Tyson Fury fought John McDermott in his 8th fight.

Thompson wasn't expected to be a harder challenge than any of the fights above (except McDermott maybe) and it was a big upset when Haye got smashed.

Sure he's learnt from it, but it was still the kind of slip up that most great fighters don't have on their records.

I don't want to stick up for Haye, but look at the Top p4p fighters and the current world champs and see how many are unbeaten (and how many lost to much lesser fighters)

All of these guys have lost fights (not all to crap fighters admitedly)
