Yes Abraham was a slight favourite even with the British bookies for the Froch fight. 8/11 kind of odds he was. I also admit although pretty much a pick em, at that point in time pre fight I probably was edging towards an Abraham win.
Regarding the threads original question though, this match up does point toward a Ward Pts win. I thought Dirrell outpointed Froch (as did the majority) and Taylor would have outpointed him if it had gone the distance. If you had Froch beating Direll then ok but he still struggled bigtime with him. Dirrell and Taylor are both slick type boxers and Ward can do similar to them but is also better at mixing it. I think Froch is at his best when theres a clear fightplan to carry out (eg.Abraham, Johnson) but its hard to do that clear of a plan for Ward. Im a Froch fan and I hope he wins for sure but common sense points towards Ward winning more rounds than Froch, be it 7 or be it 9 or whatever. I wouldnt be a jot surprised should Froch make it real close and Ward gets a much disputed win however.

OK, I googled the odds and you guys are right that Abraham was a very slight favorite at match-time. That strikes me as absolutely crazy and I wish I'd have paid attention at the time and put money on it. Even aside from being thoroughly exposed against Dirrell, Abraham was always a pure, no-offense, punching-bag as long as they other guy was throwing. And as bad as Froch's "style" is, the guy can clearly stand and throw all day long. I didn't think it would even be close going into it (and, of course, it wasn't).
I think Froch has one option, which is to break the heart of Ward. He needs to be like Marvin Hagler just be relentless, we know Froch has a great chin he just needs top keep coming and landing punches. When Ward fought Bika he had the stomatch for it just, but you could tell Ward neither enjoyed nor relishes that kind of a fight.
I don't think Froch can knock out Ward, he throws his punches to sloppily.
The problem is I like and respect both fighters, it's a shame one has to lose after such a great boxing classic.
I disagree that Abraham was thoroughly exposed against Dirrell. I actually thought Abraham was getting to Dirrell in the later rounds, which prior to Ward and Froch, was par for the course for Abraham. As evidence I would put forward that Abraham was actually the favorite going into the Froch fight, which occurred after the Dirrell fight. Most bettors saw Abraham have a strong surge at the end and that he was notorious for starting slow. Thus, he would start slow against Froch and then ko him during the later rounds. If I recall, Abraham put Dirrell down once and the ref missed it or maybe it was called a knockdown. Dirrell outboxed him though during the course of the whole bout.
if you read any of the threads on here about the froch abraham fight the vast majority were saying abraham would win
I would go as far as to say more people were backing abraham in that fight than are backing ward in this
